My Brother Bill Yvonne Bugdonis things while Bill moved furniture and in general did all the heavy work. FROM HEB precarious position on top of a step ladder Kathy surveyed with disgust the scene around her. There were boxes and boxes of dishes, cur- tains, slipcovers, books, and cartons with contents unknown, piled all around her. She lazily swung her foot back and forth while, with her chin resting on one knee and a wet rag hanging from one listless hand and dripping on a snoozing brown cocker spaniel below, she gazed at the figure of her older brother Bill, industriously painting an old table. MKathy! His voice was loud and startled her so that she nearly lost her balance. 'lKathyl This time he sounded determined, You have to help too, now grab a brush and get busy. Kathy quickly turned and slapped the rag against a nearby window, l'Can't you see l'm busy? Besides, l'm too delicate to do such unrefined work. Bill bit his lip and ignored her. He might have started to argue, as he usually did, but instead he didn't say a word. This irked Kathy into saying that the whole day would be ruined if Bill wouldn't be cooperative, 'lWhose idea was it to fix up the sum- mer house now, anyway? Bill stormed. 'lWho said we should get everything fixed before Coming out because it would save trouble? Well, little prin- cess, answer. lt was mothers idea, my dear bril- liant brother, replied Kathy with a smug look on her freckled face. 'lWell, you agreed with her, Climbing down from her perch, Kathy accidentally knocked over a can of 16 1.1 ,-11-. i,,,kY Ai-1.i- I-5-iii-11 7 -- , ...-.-- QE? I -giva - SEL 21-:: H '-. . Oh, now look what you've done, stupid, came Bills voice, You are one of the clumsiest persons l have ever had the misfor- tune to know, let alone be related to. Don't be so high and mighty with me, Alter all, it was you who put the paint there in the first place, and if you had the sense of a mule, you wouldnt have left it, So there you are, blaming poor, defenseless, innocent little me. Never mind, just clean up the mess and then start unpacking some of the stuff in those boxes. While you're at it, you can get me some lunch. Well, thank you, replied Kathy sarcastically, with a low, sweeping bow. ls there anything else your ma- jesty desires? Ah, shut up, 'lQuit ordering me around, don't be so bossy, You act more like my father than my brother. You're only three years older than l am, Kathy do this, Kathy do that, and don't do this and dont do that fyou make me sickl! With that she stuck out her tongue and ducked a well-aimed paint brush, whizzing over her head. For the next hour or so all was fairly peaceful, with only a few well chosen words, which l do not care to repeat, and many searing glances passing be- tween the two. Gddly enough they both were working. Kathy was unpacking
