she left us thls old Well w1ll you look at that The attlc was hlled w1th peals ol laughter as Lllhan spotted the photographed letter There the g1rl stood 1n full dress attlre bustle and all decoratmg the letterhead wlth a demure sm1le and a fnlly um brella shadmg the damsel from the glanng sun As long as L1ll1an was go1ng to have to Slt III the stuffy at t1c for an hour she mlght as well enyoy herself and thxs old yellowed letter appeared to be the foundatlon of a very amuslng hour After sklm mlng through the formal addresses 1t began Ianuary 28 1888 I reallze 1t was only a month sxnce our last correspondence but I slmply had to wnte you and tell you of the great event that occurred 1n my young l1fe last nlght Imagme I Es of seventeen went out on my frrst date last n1ght And oh Prunella I had the most graclous tlme When Erasmus Rodencue asked me for the honor of my presence I was shocked but secretly thnlled and even more shocked when my dear parents con sented to the appomtment much to my amazement Rushmg madly for my s1x th1rty ap pomtment I donned my newest most styhsh gown Would you belleve lt Prunella the bustle measures frfteen mches around and the hoop IS the new tnangle style And the shoulders Even I was shocked at the dar lngness of them lmagme me rn a dress Wllh dropped shoulders Of course Mother objected but I fmally persuaded her to let me wear 1t for th1s one special occas1on And then there was my cheeks Oh yes my lovely apple shmy cheeks After rub bmg geranlum petals l1ghtly over the 27 surface I fmally brought them around to the lovelxest rosmest color ever I even dared to touch my llps up w1th them but Mother hrmly demanded that Iremove xt I couldnt blame her for that of course After all there IS a l1m1t to bemg brazen And then of cour e I wanted to change the style of my ha1rdo After much persuaslon Mama allowed Adnan to set my ha1r mto afashlonable upsweep The sw1rl1ng sweep of the s1de halr re mrnded me of the wmgs of a graceful brrd m fhght I looked so matured and fashlonable that I was surpnsed my self Ol course the gown d1d help Papa d1d thmk coral and blue was a tr1fle too brlght a color for so young a g1rl but you know what a young and lovely womans charm can do to a man Even Papa I only hope Eras mus notlced the lovely new whlte czty They re SO sheer They went slmply DARLING w1th my new twelve button shoes Please take notice of the twelve buttons Shoes are wom lower than ever th1s year What wont those lashlon deslgners th1nk of next?
