The Home Economics Department is another one in which practical application is of main concern. Students in family living classes learn about the problems which may arise in married life They explore areas such as budget planning and parenthood. Girls In sewmg classes learn the basics of sewing techniques and may advance to classes in tailoring and more complicated sewing. Girls may profit from these classes by developing their own style of dressing and by gaining a larger, more economical wardrobes Foods classes teach students how to plan meals, purchase materials for them, and prepare them. In general, home economics classes prepare students for their future roles as leading members of a household. Clothing classes learn the techniques of sewing. Mr. Roop makes arrangements for the junior history trip. Miss Fitterling and her class discuss civic responsibilities Must Probe Into History and World Affairs The Social Studies classes, under the direction of Mr. Roop, give students the opportunity to gain an understanding of our heritage and our civic responsibilities. As freshmen. In Introduction to Social Studies, they learn about community affairs, and gain a basic knowledge of the principles of government. In United States History classes, juniors study our country ' s history and the ideas upon which it was founded. They also have the opportunity to take a trip to Dearborn, Michigan, in order to Illustrate the lives of historical figures In their native environments Aside from the regular classroom situation, this course is also taught in team-teaching classes. All seniors must take one semester of government In combination with sociology. International relations, or economics. At this time the seniors learn the principles of philosophy that our government is based upon. Sociology deals with man and his habits, international relations stresses the study of current events, and economics studies the economy of our country. World history, which can be taken during any of the last three years of high school. Is the study of the foundatio n of the different cultures of the world, both ancient and modern. the Home and the Shop Old cars become the chief Interest of auto mechanics classes. Mr Bonham encounters problems m his mdustrlal arts classes The IniJustrial Arts Departinent offers a complete range of subjects in the area of vocational arts. These courses further the student ' s knowledge in the basic fields to prepare them for careers using their industrial talents. This department includes classes in drafting, electronics, auto mechanics, wood shop, and machine shop. In drafting, the student learns the technical elements of drawing. The auto mechanics pupil is taught fundamental skills by properly attending to car care. Wood shop and machine shop, two other aspects of this department, involve the use of skills in developing projects using wood and metal as raw materials. In contrast, the student who enrolls in the electronics course studies the basis of electrical currents. This class deals with not only the shop work, but also the mathematical calculations which are involved. Students work diligently on then machine shop projects. MR. C. R BONHAM: B.S,.
