It IS on the foundations of English that the student builds his basic patterns of learning The in- structors of this department, under the guidance of Mr Kline, attempt to give each student a full under standing of the possibilities of our language In doing so, they open new channels of communication to the pupil. Vocabulary and grammar give the means to formulate the fundamental structure of writing. In composition and literature, the student learns to ex- press himself through the study of accomplished authors. Discu ssion provides an opportunity for pupils to share their ideas, giving them the answers to ques- tions that they raise in their own minds As each area is studied, films and records are introduced as supplements For some of the areas of study, such as poetry, senior English classes combine to form a team-teaching course This type of classroom provides the student with the experience of a lecture course which they will experience later in college, and a more varied course involving a larger number of students A student panel tries to explain the meaning of various poems.
