Of course we haven't called them that right along, but now that we're leaving them we love them! From Bauer to West, from IOB to IQA, they have labored mightily over us. If any of us ever amount to anything, much credit to these, our faculty and friends should be given. ,,,,7, , , ,,,, , This year ends the first ten in Adams history. As any well or- ganized group should, Adams has progressed in its dramatic pro- ductions, athletic programs, and its school spirit has been lifted to an all time high. Mrs. Borough, Miss Inwood, Mr. Swartz, and Mr. Carroll are new in our Adams family this year, lout they will help us, in the years to come, carry on the progress of John Adams. MR. GALEN B. Any person who feels he would like to fiind out a little more about drama is welcome. The past year the Drama Club was lead by the Drama Board which is headed by Lois Warstler. The largest annual project of the club is its Chicago trip. Each year this trip is made by some of the members of the club. During this day in Chicago the sights of the Loop are taken in and in the afternoon a stage produc- tion is seen. This year the play seen was The Mad Woman of Chaillot . The Drama Club played a large part in the school production The Bat which was presented last fall. It took part not only in supplying some mem- bers of the cast but also in organizing the committees which worked behind the scenes. The play was directed by Mr. Casady and proved to be very enioyable for all who participated. When not occupied by play promo- tions the club holds weekly meetings at which programs pertaining to dra- matics are staged. However this year there wasn't much spare time because this spring the club assisted the Glee Club in producing the musical Wild- ower . He becomes a full fledged member upon pay- ment of his semester dues. This, the third year of the club, was a busy and productive one. One of the ways of rais- ing money for their activities was the sale of schedule pencils. The club sponsored and managed all the awards assemblies this year. They purchased a trophy for each of the four maior sports, football, basketball, baseball, and track. These trophies are awarded to one boy from each of these sports after each season is completed. During the basketball season, the Monogram Club had its own reserved section for all home games. Admittance was tree to members. They constituted the center of the cheering section. With the club as a nucleus there was a decided improvement in the support given the players. This year the sports award was changed. The former blue S. B. has been replaced by the blue letter A. Now the Adams letter winner is a marked man. The annual Sox I-lop at which the music was furnished by Mr. Deardort's dance band, was held in the gym. THOMPSON again coached the John Adams golfers to a successful season. All home matches were played at The Erskine course. Golf, like tennis, is played as a series of individual matches. Habart held the number one position this year with Moore, Weissert, Grimshaw, Dickens, and Million in that order. These were chosen for the team from many aspirants who tried out for positions. Weissert, Moore, and Grimshavv were re- turning team members. The captain for this year's team was chosen at the end of the season. Here you see Mr. and Miss Adams, Richard Bennett and Shirley Rogers in various scenes of a typical school day. lt was with good reason that Dick and Shirley gained their places as the most typical Adams students. Dick was this year president of the Adams student council and a member of the school student forum. He was president of his senior class and in his senior B year president of the Mono- gram Club. He was an active member ot the Adams Hi-Y. He played varsity basketball for three years and was captain of the tennis team of which he was a member for three years. He was a member of the baseball team for three years. With his Athletics and many other extraecurricular activities, CLOCKWISE: Every morning at eight . . f-W and he said -ff! He always has a cheery hello for every- one and is forever glad to be of assistance to everyone for any reason, Shirley with her gay smile and willingness to help has played an ac- tive part in school affairs. She was an active member of Drama Club, working on the committee for Captain Jinks and The Bat . She was in the casts of Crime at Blossoms and The Bat . Shirley was advertising manager of the Tower in her senior year and has been a member of the Advertising staff for two years. She is worthy advisor of the Order of Rainbow for girls and for the past year has served as president of the Junior Progress Club. She was the Adams representative for the Robertson's High School Fashion Board. With students such as Dick and Shirley, Adams has good reason to be proud of her student body and its accomplishments. O BE better citizens in this mechanical age, one must learn to op- erate mechanical devices well. The most treacherous ot all land even more so in the hands of the ladies according to the male speciesl is the automobile. Whether one 76 LOWER LEFT: lt's a fascinating mechanism girls. Statistics say that teen-age drivers are the worst in the country. ln his driver's training courses, Mr. Powell, is attempting to help the high school students get rid of those disgraceful statistics. In classroom work and actual driving experience one learns the skills of driving, the laws of state and country, the common driving courtesies, and what makes the car tick or the mechanism under the hood. Better drivers will make better and safer citizens. John Adams is doing its part to improve safety practices. A VERY active part of the school is the Adams shop, conducted by Mr. Dickey and Mr. Thompson. The shop is very well equipped and efficiently run. There are opportunities for boys and girls alike to learn industrial and commercial arts. The finished products, whether tables, book ends, letter openers, or vases, are pieces of work anyone would be proud to own. The boys in the print shop provide programs and tickets for school affairs. The future mechanics have ample opportunity to learn the use of the various machines. The shop students aid in set construction for dramatic produc- tions. The thanks and appreciation of the student body are heartily extended to them. They were on their way to see colonial lite in its reality. The affair was the annual American Culture Trip to the village and the Ford plant. The group paused at the Irish Hills to stretch their legs and take in some of the lovely scenery. Pro- ceeding on their iourney, they ar- rived at Dearborn and saw such things as 58 Bagley Avenue, the birthplace of the Ford car, and the Wright Cycle Shop, the birthplace of the airplane. Houses and stores, imported from across the sea, and actual colonial homes and shops were viewed. Indeed, it was like stepping into a different worlcl. The students visited the Edison Institute, founded by Henry Ford, where they saw many exhibits in- cluding that of transportation methods through the years. Many found the Ford plant the most interesting part of the day. There they saw the glass plant and final assembly line. Then it was home and BED! UPPER LEFT: Who got the seat next to Roy?
