Meetings are held once a week at the East Side YMCA. This club is kept busy the year around with their annual dance basketball team and other proiects that come up during the year .uch as their selling of carnival buttons this year. No fun would make this a dull club so for enter- tainment they sponsor sleigh rides bus parties and pow-wows. We gg Q93 WW Z, . PAX ff I T , '00, ,, 3 3 Ts T ' Page twenty-eig ht SY-fa RIFLE CLUB Proudly displaying medals and em blems which they have won are these sharpshooters who have banded together to form our Rifle Club, Each Monday night the Rifle Club which is under the supervision of Mr. Worthington meets at Wilder Playground where they shoot. On some nights they compete against other high school teams. This helps to keep them in practice improves their aim and provides enioyment. Not to be outdone in any field the fairer sex has entered this activity. Many of the girls in the club equal the boys as far as ability and marksmanship are concerned. HISTORICAL SOCIETY One of the newer clubs the Historical Society was organized a few years ago with the purpose in mind of keeping a record of all graduates of Johnson. Bound copies of the COURIER are on file in Club headquarters, 109. At present, the Club has worked back as far as the class of 1940. The records include a picture and a listing of any important incident in the lives of the graduates. When the Club meets, they divide into groups and spend their time making and filing cards or cutting pictures and articles from the newspapers. Planning the many Junior Red Cross activities for the school is the responsibility of the Red Cross Coun- cil composed of a representative from each home- room. Every Johnson Red Cross member participates in such varied activities as caroling ot Christmas time, decorating hospitals, entertaining at Gillette Hos- pital and Hastings State Mental Hoscitol, fillina Christmas gift boxes for children in Europe and Korea, and giving money to the National Children's Fund and the Junior RC Service Fund. Under the leadership of Mr. Hoff, our Red Cross has been able to serve our country, community, and school. STENO CLUB One of the many rights in a democ- racy is freedom to pick whatever occupation one desires. The Steno Club is made up of twenty-three girls who are in the shorthand II and secretarial practice classes. These future stenographers, many of whom find stenographic jobs before graduating, hold meet- ings during class periods. Running off tests on the ditto or mimeograph ma- chines, typing lists of names, and sending out school letters are but a few of the many duties performed by these girls. During club meetings many outside speakers and demonstrators are heard. The girls also take tours through prominent business offices. Page twent
