They assist in the routine administration of the school, make out tardy slips, prepare and dis- tribute the daily attendance lists, phone the absentees daily, check skipper slips, answer the telephones, give mes- sages, and perform innumerable duties pertaining to the regular functions ot OFFICE FORCE the school. Under the supervision of Miss Smith and Miss Dvorak, they knitted an afghan from yarn salvaged from old athletic socks and gave it to the Iunior Red Cross who will send it to some Army camp. In the spring the girls sponsor the annual grab bag sale of unclaimed articles, the proceeds from which they donate to the Red Cross and other worthy projects. Row A: D. Whyte, A. Social and family relations and sociology Know a branch of the new combined civicsl help the soldier-to-be by pre- senting to him possible post-war prob- lems and their solution. Serving in a unique manner are the home making courses. They insure the boys that their gals will be able to cook a decent meal, darn a mean sock, and budget their earnings, so that they may have efficient homes when they come back home. The girls take dictation, type. file, handle all school finances, and do innumerable odd jobs besides. Several also help the Student Council with the selling of war stamps and bonds. The traffic squad is a comparatively new organization at Iohnson. First under Mr. Blume, and now, as a branch of the Student Council, they have man- aged to better conditions throughout the school.
