Staters Bury Red Tape The American Legion selected five Ferris students as delegates for the 1981 summer session of Boys' and Girls' State. They were: Matt Girvin, Bill Pliss, Sue McGeorge, Barb Becker, Shannon Boyd, and Anne Roorda. Selected on the basis of past ac- complishments and leadership potential, the staters participated in a mock government. ln this mock government, they studied parliamentary procedure of l 2 3 local and state governmental systems. Held in Ellensburg, Washington, the students ran for various offices in their individual cities, as well as on a state wide level. The delegates attended lec- tures and rallied at campaign functions. 'lThe main idea stressed at the session was to respect and love your country. Patriotism was embedded deeper into everyone's heart at the end of the week, expressed Girls' stater Sue McGeorge. P I R l T Spells Hello Week 7 The 1981 Hello Week started with a ban on Western Day. Cowboys and cowgirls wore everything from leather boots to feathery cowboy hats. On Tuesday, Class Color Day, each class wore their appropriate color, freshmen wore pink, sophomores green, juniors blue, and seniors wore the school color, red. Wednesday was Sports Day. Everyone- turned out in sports gear ranging from ski outfits to tennis dresses and football jerseys. On that day, the Senior slaves appeared to be out in full force. Slave, Melanie Blomquist said 'The work was well worth it. The Senior class made S125 for upcoming activities. l'AIoha! Thursday was Tacky Hawaiian Day with leis, grass skirts and sunglasses as common attire. Dur- ing the day, the Ferris natives enjoyed a prepared pic- nic lunch on the new football field. On Friday, Preppy Day, students wore oxfords, levis, and plaid skirts while enjoying the pep con in the field house. That evening, Saxons gathered in the cafe for the long awaited kick-off mixer. Although Hello Week was alot of fun, it served another purpose. Hello Week chairwoman, Ann Roorda said, l'The real purpose of Hello Week is to boost Saxon spirit to a really high level.

FERRIS HS Bowlers Victorious Studying hours and hours every day finally paid off for five Ferris students. Captain Eric Holdaway, Bill Bliss, Dave Tyron, Susan Kelley, and alternate Kevin Cubley joined the prestigious 1981-82 High School Bowl team. Under the supervision of Mr. Kent Varty, coaching his se- cond year, the studious team faithfully practiced three times a week. Mr. Varty commented that each team member specialized in one or two prominent areas, while Bill Bliss excell- ed in Science and American History, Susan Kelley, showed dominance in Literature, Dave Tyron knows his Science and Math, and Eric Holdaway is competent with U.S. History and World History. Mr. Varty felt that the team members showed potential to go far in competition but he jokingly added Nif the right questions are asked. In the first couple of competitions the team victoriously creamed LC. by 125 points and Wallace by a whopping 120 points. PANKE WATERS K LLEY 1. Group's patriotism stands out. 2.
