Chalk up another fantastic moneymaking idea for the Senior Class! Fall semester officers were very busy this year Their days were filled with plans for Homecoming activities, sucker sales. Senior T-shirts and mixer, and other social functions. Bob Striech. President of the Senior Class, said. I enjoyed being president because I became actively involved with the class and was given the opportunity to get to know our administration ' ' He felt the semester activities were a big success and enjoyed being a part of them . Our Spring semester officers, under the direction of Mark Luce, were very busy with plans for all of Mark ' s suggested activities. A Volleyball Marathon, a Senior Swim, and a Senior Sneak (where the Seniors took a day off to have a good time) were some of Mark ' s original and brilliant ideas. Mark also headed our traditional activities; the Senior Prom, the Picnic, the Breakfast, and, of course. Graduation. 69 1974 Senior Prom ' PLACES IN OUR PAST Places in our Past was the theme for Ferris High School ' s 1974 Senior Prom. The dance was held at the Spokane Community College Lodge on the evening of May 1 8. Like many other departing seniors. Shannon Birchill and Steve Moser spent a most memorable evening Dining at the Black Angus and dancing to the music of Bighorn was a pleasant way to begin the evening. But most of the time found them reflecting on moments past and dreaming about the times to come. 1974 Valedictorians Doug Baxter Joy Wagner Larry Furumasu Doug has been active in Honor Society, and he originated Ferris ' Math Club. What you accomplish in a year depends on what you accomplish in a day. A year is full of friends and enemies, laughter and tears; brisk autumn nights and warm spring days filled with never-ending activity The year is full of battles, whether the fight is to save a city or win a game; hard work grows into tremendous accomplishment. Whether your year is spending months preparing for a musical or just gazing in wonder at the splendor of a snow covered world, become involved in something. So that when the year ends, it is more than just over! Connie Witte THAN JUST ANOTHER YEAR! A.S.B. FALL OFFICERS The first semester A. S B. officers started the year off right by putting on Hello Week, which included many activities such as Twin Day, Friendliest Girl and Boy. and an exuberant Kick-off Mixer after the first football game In November they sponsored Ferris ' first Homecoming Week. It was an action-packed week with a Music Con. Alumni Tea and 1963 Dress-up Day. The spring and fall semester officers were honored at the exciting Inaugural Ball on February 9th. at the Davenport Hotel. After the spring officers were officially installed, they began work on the open-door policy, drug prevention and revising the constitution. They planned to finish off the year with a spring retreat, where they were to discuss school problems. A.S.B. SPRING OFFICERS Lett to right: Connie Witte. secretary; Steve Moser. vice-president. The club ' s first project was an International Language party, held for Oddvar Lar- sen. Ferris ' foreign exchange student from Norway The other special guests included Francis Gabe. from France, and Bob Konizeski. from Germany. They are both students at Ferris. The German and French club members also had plans for activities that were separated from the International Language Club. The Spanish Club participated mainly in the combined projects. The German Club listened to Frau Rapp speak about German Christmas customs, and they all ate heartily at a German food potluck dinner. Also the students had a camping trip planned for the spring. The French Club began their year with a French dinner with French- American citizens. Then in February, the club ' s members arranged a Mardi Gras. Plays, puppet shows and colorful costumes were to help make it an exciting event. A brisk, sunshiny October afternoon saw Doug Beckman and Tim Riley lead an experienced Saxon cross-country team to a City Championship. Ferris footballers ran into rough water in the Fall of ' 73. After romping off to a convincing victory over the North Central Indians in the Saxons initial outing of the year, the gridiron gang dropped the remaining eight games. Dedicated Ferris fans never said die. Filling the stands game after game, Saxon supporters gave their undying loyalty and spirit to their team and school. Win and lose, victory and defeat, in the end, are all the same for we are all Ferris Saxons and this was the important thing in the Fall of ' 73. Dedicated, enthusiastic Ferris fans provided Saxon teams with much needed support during the fall sports season Saxon gridders began fall season with a 33-14 romp over the North Central Indians I Doug Beckman exemplifies the feeling of his fellow Saxon harriers as he leads them to a City Championship 138 ' Gridiron Gan g IF AT FIRST YOU DONT SUCCEED . . . The spirit was high and goals were set as the Saxons prepared for game number one of the 1973 season. Captains Steve Moser and Geof Fanning led their teammates to a victorious 33-14 romp over N.C. But the tide turned the following week as Ferris went down to defeat at the hands of G-Prep, 9-0. Vigorous attempts to bring victory back to Ferris fell short. The gridiron gang ended the season 1-8. The consolation is that 26 players will return next year, 1 1 of them starters. Saxon football coaches have been and always will be winners! And this alone will ignite the fuse that will begin the comeback trail for a championship bid next season. 140 1973 SAXON 12-Roger Stilson. QB 14 Steve Holzer. QB GRIDIRON GANG 16 Dave Black. The excitement of a homerun or a Saxon crossing the finish line first, combined with the sunshine and warm spring days to draw Saxon supporters to the stands Saxon baseballers had an optomistic attitude towards the 74 season as seven lettermen returned from the ' 73 s second place team The ' Big Red track crew were once again in hot pursuit of another title, and both tennis and golf teams were determined to never say die in seeking titles, after finishing strong seconds in fall competition. SAXONS I Seven Lettermen Return for Saxons Coach Bob Burkhart ' s Saxons returned seven lettermen in ' 74 and four of them were pitchers. All but one of the ' 73 gang was on the mound for Ferris this season. Captain Glen Proelss and veteran Ken Kirsch plugged the middle of the infield at second base and shortstop, respectively Flanking them were Al Rubens at third base and sharing first base duties were George Yarno and Barry Merritt. Blake Mounsey was the only outfield letterman, but he received ample help from Don Wolfe, Dave Black and Jim Snow. Small, but scrappy catchers were Larry Loncon and Rob Reed, alternating at that position John Youngman and John Reidy were strong on the mound as both were in the starting rotation for the second straight year Unexpected spring rains and early yearbook deadlines do not mix. However, this gives us a chance to show you that more is involved with Saxon athletics than what the average fans see Hours of hard work and practice go into shaping Saxon teams into first class squads Come rain or sleet or gloom of night, Saxons never fail to meet their appointed practice schedules, even if it means practicing in the gym 157 Sr. -John Youngman Sr.-Glen Proelss Sr.-Ken Kirsch Sr. -Al Rubens Sr -Barry Merritt Sr. -Rob Reed Sr.- Larry Loncon Jr. -Blake Mounsey Soph -Don Wolfe Soph -Dave Black Jr. -George Yarno Jr. -John Reidy Jr. -Mark Parris Sr. -Joe Leahy Jr. -Steve Miller Jr -Darrell Aubrey Sr. -Rick Westover Jr. -Kent Neubauer Jr. -Jim Snow Jr -Norm Brown 158 I 74 Varsity Batsmen Front Row Left to Right Norm Brown, Blake Mounsey.
