Mr. Perry 0. Sanders Mr. Byron Swanson Mr. Perry 0. Sanders ' philosophy of life is. A person ' s life is not well spent unless he works to help other people. Mr. Sanders has constantly helped others as has been evident in his classrooms. His teaching career spans over a forty-two year period starting back in 1 930, as he taught a classroom of sixth graders in Missouri. He came to Spo kane in 1940 where he taught at Lewis and Clark, Havermale, Libby and in 1963, ventured here to Ferris. Being an educator is only one phase of Mr. Sanders varied and interesting life. He has also been a builder, a civilian War Department employee in Alaska, and a preacher. He worked his way through college preaching in small churches Mr. Sanders ' sincerety, honesty, and dedication to his students has been admired by us all. He has always shown great concern for the educational process. He feels that Ferris is attempting to answer many of the perplexing questions that face the schools today. Mr Sanders will be remembered for his open mindedness, as he saw two sides to every issue. For your overwhelming concern of human life, dedication to your students, and love of all, thanks from all of us here in Saxon Country , Joel E. Ferris High School. We salute you. Mr Byron Swanson, a member of a pioneer Spokane family, is a man dedicated to public services. Mr Swanson served the Spokane Public Schools as a member of the Board of Directors for six years until his resignation this past year. He has also long been associated with the Kiwannis Club, an organization which is known for its interest in youth. Mr. Swanson has had a special association with Ferris because his children are graduates of this school. As a P.T.A. member, he has shared his special musical talents with Ferris by appearing in many of this group ' s musical productions. He was the chairman of the first P.T.A. show and has also served Ferris as President of the P.T.A. Mr. Swanson considers the Year of the Saxon as a very thrilling series of events in the Saxon Community. We thank you, Mr. Swanson, for your many years of service to Spokane and to the Spokane Public Schools. We especially thank you for the unselfish donation of your time and talents that have been of such benefit to Joel E. Ferris High School.
