sztxnn arenas 'E SEPTEMBER Time to put away lazy afternoons by the lake, sun burn lotions and summer romances for alarm clocks, school books and Resource Center crushes. On the 9th, Ferris began its second year of operation. Pep convocations on the 10th and 11th revived dormant spirit for Ferris' first varsity football clash on the 12th with Gonzaga. OCTOBER An all-school convocation featuring J EF the Magic Dragon, and adaptation of a popular folk song, heralded the beginning of the first annual ASB sponsored Saxon Week. Noble Day and Serf Day followed on the 6th and 7th. Festivities were climaxed Friday evening at an all-school mixer. NOVEMBER Politics, politics! Saxons did their part in determining history as they cast ballots for president and governor in the ASB mock election held just before the real one. Fathers were entertained by a fight between a five foot rabbit and a well-known TV star over a box of Trix at the Father-Daughter Dessert put on by the League of Dresden on the 24th. DECEMBER The ting-a-ling of sleigh bells mingled with the soft THUD! of a basketball being propelled down the Coli- seum court as Ferris entered its first year of varsity play on the lst by battling East Valley. The colorfully costumed players of The Mikado delighted audiences in three night performances starting on the third. Remember the snow that fell? And fell and fell? And the excited whispers in the halls only two more inches . . . ? And Mr. Finnegan's rather elongated announcement ending with the causal statement that oh, yes, school was to be dismissed two days early? And the shouts of joy echoing through the halls of Saxony? Merry Christmas . . . JANUARY . . . and a Happy New Year! On the 4th, students trudged back dressed .in bright new sweaters that Santa had left under that evergreen tree that suddenly and unexpectedly sprouted from the living room floor. The League of Dresden presented a smoking convocation featuring a real live death scene with their introductions convocation. Spirits in Saxony reached a new high mark on the 29th when students received long awaited semester report cards. FEBRUARY Screams of laughter issued from the audi- torium as the Valkyrs revealed their dramatic talents in their own version of Snow White, charmingly entitled Pink Slush and the Seven Drips on the 25th. MARCH Having recovered from Slush, the Valkyrs again exhibited their many talents as they honored St. Patrick at the Shilelagh Shuffle, a mixer on the 12th. Speaking of talent, remember A Night in Saxony, on the 26th and 27th, when parents and teachers went out to prove that they could be just as silly as the students ? APRIL A good time was had by all attending County Fair, a date dance sponsored jointly by the League of Dresden and Court of Carmine, on the 30th. MAY The adventures, rather MISadventures, of a new student, who finds himself suddenly stranded in the midst of Saxony, were charted by the Junior Convocation. The Speaking of talent . i . League of Dresden honored their mothers at a Mother- Daughter Tea in May. On the 15th, Juniors and their dates attended Ferris' first Junior Prom, Three Coins in a Fountain at the Holiday Inn. JUNE On the 9th, students again left the fair realm of Saxony, to exchange alarm clocks, now-battered school books and RC crushes for lazy afternoons in the sun, sun burn lotions and new summer romances. Politics, politics! And fell and fell?

rlminisirzxfiun GPffers Cbuirlanne MR. ARTHUR BLAUERT, MR. H. O. FINNEGAN, Vice Principal Principal One of the many unique features of Joel E. Ferris high school is the degree of responsibility that the students can earn and use. The kind of responsibility that one owes to his nation, his state, community, school or family. This is so well stated in the writings of Joel E. Ferris. He says, I believe that each one owes a debt to the community in which he lived which can be repaid in small part by a gift to the agencies and institutions existing for the purpose of helping mankind, educating and inspir- ing the young, raising the spiritual standard of life. I would like to emphasize the gift of leadership, ser- vice, citizenship and scholarship that can be given by the students to their school. Your school is on its way to becoming one of the finest in the Northwest. You have a share in that responsibility. Arthur Blauert, Principal
