Whether your idea of having fun is going to parties, dancing, acting crazy, or just being alone, you can always find someone else doing the same thing. Aside from school activites, many students are involved in activites outside of school. These range from showing horses, to ballet dancing, water ski- ing, or even motorcross racing. All of these things make up you, Robin- sons student life! Eh. 5 1 VZ DECEMBER N 48 - 15 JOE T. Green Beret to be. Robert jogs home threefand a half miles everyday after his hour workout at school. He runs track for half an hour then does exercises for another half an hour. It takes him 30 minutes to jog home from Robinson, he said. This summer he plans to go to Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri for eight weeks of Advanced Individual Training. He will then attend ' Airborne Training at Ft. Benning, in Georgia for three weeks. Robert , plans to go to the University of Central Arkansas for four years. Then it will be time for his Green Beret training at Ft. Bragg in North Carolina . This will last for four months. With such Great dedication and interest he will surely succeed. Tf vou've ever visted Ferndale, you know that after the sun goes down all excitement dies. That's until the week- end rolls around. In this case the ex- citement starts when the sun goes down. If you like to nlav nool, oinhall, or others vou can visit the Ferndale Rec Center. On Friday nights you can hear live country music at the Community Cen- ter. If your thing is getting together with a few friends you might want to try one of the many clubs on Garrison Road. Except for weekdays, Ferndale has a lot to offer. Candy Strippers are people who volunteer their time and services to help out at their local hospitals during the summer. Several Robinson students have donated their time to serving others in this way. They do such things as running errands, computer work, answering patient calls, working in the nur- sery and the labor room. They can do almost everything but give med- icine. The age limit on being a candy stripper is 14 years old, or be in the 9th grade. Lauren Goodloe, Lori Lynch, Char- lene Jones, Pam Turpin, and Paula Cooper are some students who have done this. when asked why they volunteered, the general response was that it helps you get a good start on your medical career, or just see if really what you want to go in to, or they like to do it, and you really learn a lot. Two Students from Robinson attended classes at U.A.L.R. this fall for one semester. They were Lisa Plunkett and Leisa Tolliver. About 20 seniors from the Pulaski County Special School Dist- rict attended. The class was nCareer Choosing and Life Planning.H It was held on Mondays and Wednesdays for an hour after school. Fridays the class had speakers in different occupations. The course was taught by Mr. Charles Donaldson. The first part of the course was a classroom type situation. The last six weeks, the students participated in a mentorship. Leisa Tolliver went for three hours on Mondays to Barbie Soul Advertising Agency, where she learned howwspecial ad schemes were thought up and put down on paper. Lisa Plunkett was at the computer department at U.A.L.R. under the super- vision of Mr. Phil Orahood. The students tried to get an idea of what kind of job they might enjoy. The girls received one school credit and a college credit Cone hour! for the course. Dwight Wheeler and Jeff Holden are both members of the Pulaski County 4-H clubs. Through 4-H they have recieved many awards. The highest of these awards though was being named State winners of Arkansas. This enabled them to win a free trio t6 Chicago for a whole week. In addition to this award, Dwight was named a National winner in his proiect Ricvcles. Every year the Robinson fans look for- ward to the games against Oak Grove. Oak Grove has become our biggest rival, and a- long with this has come the great spirit, support, and vandalism. In the past few years, the rivalry has brought about bright paint on the two scho- ols with slogans such as NR.H.S. is flu, and nGo Big'Greenn, and some things that we'l1 leave in the dust from the sand bla- ster. Along with the paint came the eggs and urolledn houses. This year the two schoolls Student Coun- cils got together to devise a way of stop- ping the vandalism. Both school's Senior Cheerleaders made a flag with their mascot on it. The flags were to be given to the team who won. It was said that the flags would be exchanged back and forth to the school that won the games. The rivalry doesn't bring all bad though, the spirit during the weeks of Robinson vs. Oak Grove games is super! This year the Robinson Senior Cheerleaders had a Hspirit weekn for the big football game. There was an extra long pep assembly in which the student body repeatedly chanted HBEAT OAK GROVEIN On the other side of the river, there was also a lot going on. Oak Grove had a spirit week and an hour long pep assembly. The football game didn't turn out as we had'all wanted. Oak Grove won with a score of 13-6. The annual Band Contest was also an upset. Despite this, the fans continued to stand behind the Senators and help the basketball teams to gain continuous victory over Oak Grove. The Hornets were really excited about the game at their home court. They sent a letter to Robinson saying that they were going to sell out the stands. To their suprise, Robin son fans occupied all of the visitors stands and half of the home stands. Cheers were heard through the whole night Robinson fans would be heard over Oak Grove's pep band and their cheerleaders. For the last few minutes of the game, the gym was ringing with the chant of HHEY, DON'T GO, WE'LL WALK YOU TO THE DOOR,N by the Robinson fans, Chee leaders, and pep club. The game at Robinson turned out about the same. The Senators ran over the Hornets and sent them home very disapointed. Oak Grove, isn't it time you learned that nR.H.S. ts THE Bssrxssn 'Did you know that the Arkansas State Champion in the sr. ladies division of figure skating goes to a student in our school? YN Five yearbook staff members: Mich- elle Tyler-Editor, Don Brown-0rganizat- ion Editor, Lisa Plunkett-Girls Sports Editor, Paula Plunkett-Class Editor, Donald Martindale-Boy's Sports Editor, and Mrs. Karen Lowery-Sponsor, attended the 24th annual yearbook workshop at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway during the summer. The work- shop lasted five days. Dr. Manion Rice, a journalism pro- fessor at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, was director of the work shop. About 150 students from about 30 different schools attended. The R.H.S. staff members started the planning of the yearbook and attempted to get motivated for the 1979-80 Sen- ator during that week. Are you into the music scene? Doug Hunt and Owen White sure are. Not only do they both compose and perform songs but they both have won a scholarship in music. Doug plans to attend the University of Central Arkansas, while Owen plans to attend the University of Ark- ansas at Little Rock. Who knows, some day they may be famous singers! L IFE IN 1980 !!!!! During the years of 1979-80, many different groups visited the T. H. Bar- ton Coliseum for concerts. Many of our students here at Robinson have attended some of these such as, Billy Joel, Jour- ney, Thin Lizzy, Z. Z. Top, Van Halen, Molly Hatchet, Styx, The Cars, Heart, and Kenny Rogers, which was a sell out. There are different kinds of concert set ups. Most of them are set up to face just one side of the audience, but this year Kenny Rogers has a new set up. It's round so everyone in the audience will be able to see. The average costs to se a concert isa about 36.50. Many of our students att- end the concerts faithfully and report that they are very enjoyable and well worth their money. Roller Skating is an old hobby, but a fast, growing fad. In the central Lit tle Rock and Jacksonville areas there are about 8 rinks where you can rent your skates or bring your own. Inside the rinks you are free C0 skate almost any way you want just as long as you are not hurting anyone else or taking away from their fun. The new fad in roller skating is Roller Disco- It costs about 53.00 to skate for about 5 hours. It's very good exercises and most enjoyable Russell Rainey, a student at Robinson, enjoy s competitive wat- er skiing as one of his sum er hob- bies. There are three different catagories in which he competes. They are jump skiing, trick skiing, and slalom skiing. In the jump skiing competitions you are judged by how far you can jump off a ramp. In the trick skiing competition you are given so many minutes to show all the tricks you can do. In the slalom skiing competition you have to manuver yourself through bouy's. In order to win the compet- ition you have to score the most points from all of the catagories. Russell won one trophy this summer in a competition. Other students in our school who compete are David Bagley, he competes in barefoot and slalom skiing, and Mike Fulton, who competeswin S181f15q'Q and trick skiing. Edward said it took a lot of persuasion to convince his parents to let him race, because of the danger involved. Edward's mother still feels uneasy about him racing Edward missed several weeks of racing this year , due to a broken arm he re- ceived playing basketball. Todd rides a Yamaha 125. He has been racing for two years. His travel has ranged from Broken Bow, Oklahoma to the Super Dome in New Orleans, Louisiana. He has won 26 trophies which include eight first place, seven second place, five third place, four fourth place, one sev- enth place, and one tenth place trophies. Todd has also received the Louisiana State Championship in the 125 and 250 classes . Todd has also had a broken arm, which he received at the Jaycee race last year. Both Edward and Todd plan to continue their hobby, motocross racing. W Along with the new school year came some new fashions. Walking down the halls of Robinson was like seeing your favorite fashion mag- azine come to life. Most of our students kept up with the quickly changing fashions. Many of the girls were seen wearing straight legged jeans and cowboy boots. Bag- gy pants and spiked heeled shoes were very popular with the girls also. But the girls weren't the only ones dressing in style. Some of the guys were seen wearingplea- ted pants with very stylish sweaters. FASHIONS V 1980 Talented and Gifted? What would you think a class would try to teach you that was called T.A.G.? This class teaches you to think. These students get up early eno- ugh to be in class by 7:15. In this class the students learn to think critically and they learn more about their favorite hobby or the profession they wish to pursue. For a semester project the stu- dents have to present a project on whatever hobby or occupation they are interested in. Autumn Williams is researching to find out about her family tree. Cyndy Montgomery is doing a re- port on the history and culture of the people who lived on the Buffalo River. Martha Strange is interested in creative media for teaching. These students are stretching their abilities to the extreme end to learn everything they can. HGMEMAKERS The 4-H does a lot for kids. One of them is sponsoring cooking contests. Beverly Baskette is one of the people in them. She has competed in four 6-H spon sored contests. Beverly has also competed in contests for Kraft and the Dairy Association. Beverly applied for a scholorship to U.C.A. She plans to major in Home Econo- nics. Beverly would also like to pursue a career in Foods and Nutrition.
