,lim Thorpe Area Senior High School now participates in four competitive sports: football, basketball, baseball, and track. On March 12 of this year Mr. Oscar Maehrer resigned as head basketball coach of the ,lim Thorpe Area Senior High School. Since Mr. Maehrer had served faithfully as an athletic coach for the past 21 years, his resignation was accepted with regret by the School Board. Mr. Maehrer, who was respected and admired by his many basketball players, always tried to instill in his team the impor- tance of good sportsmanship, whether in victory or in defeat. We are eertain that next year's basketball team will feel deeply the loss of their coach, Mr. Oscar Maehrer. As this book goes to press, our baseball team has not yet been chosen. We are looking forward to a successful season in tho Mountain League with Mr. Thomas Carr as our head base- ball eoaeh. The following is the baseball schedule for this season: April lll Lehighlon Away April I6 White Haven Home April I9 Weatherly Away April 23 Rock Glen Home April 26 Lehighton Home April 30 Ringlown Away May 7 White Haven Away May l0 Weatherly Home May lfl- Rock Glen Away May 21 Ringtown Home On the following pages you will Gnd various pictures and write-ups pertaining to the athletic curriculum in ,lim Thorpe Area Senior High School. 52

This year, a football team was organized under Mr. Thomas Carr. For the first time in 23 years our school participated in this sport. Football was last played here in 1932 under Mr. Everett R. Hunter. Because of inexperience the team won only one game while losing Eve, but our boys showed great spirit and promise for future years. In November, Peter Wei'nett was chosen to represent us in the annual Panther Valley All Star game which was played in Lansford. The following boys will be lost to the squad through graduation this June: Donald Black, Rodger Horos, Marvin Hurley, Eugene Kissner and Peter Wernett.
