re Christmas Dance “Christmas Reflection” was the theme for this year’s Christmas season dance. The dance was held in one portion of the new multi-purpose room. There were many Christmasy decorations which included 4 large trees, many, many stars falling from the ceiling, a lot of glitter and 5 princesses and princes (one couple soon to be King and Queen), mixing nicely with all the decorations. The court included 7th 8th princess Brenda Morgan and prince Bobby Robinson, 9th Susan Hunter and Dante Dante’ Hill, 10th Tina Robinson and Neil Vandehey, 11th Donna Reeher and Dean Foster, 12th Marcy Layman and Scott Frazier Above- After hours of preparation, Christmas Reflections at . Slave Sale Above- Joan Layman telling the upperclassmen what sexy legs she has. Above- Todd Johnson let’s his feminine side show through. The freshmen class of 1979 were auctioned off as slaves on September 14th. The prices the slaves sold for ranged from $1.00 to $60.00. Among the highest priced slaves were Daren Berg, who sold for $9.00; Allen Hecker, $14.00; and Lynda Adamson, the highest priced slave, selling for $60.00. There were 12 slaves sold in all. Each of the slaves put up a struggle, but had to face the entire student body with their faces painted black with burnt cork. Some of the tasks the slaves completed while being auctioned off included, pushing pennies, showing their legs, singing songs, and telling the upper classmen how much they love them. The slave sale raised $119.50 for the sophomore class, and officially welcomed the freshmen into Jewell High School. Above- Lynda Adamson unwillingly tells the upper classmen how much she loves them. Cross Country After 10 years, the competition of Cross Country has finally returned to Jewell High School. Because this was the first year of cross country in so long, the year was conducted as an experiement to see if the sport would get any participation. The team consisted of only two runners, James Reeher and Ward Vandehey. To even things out, there were also two coaches, Jim Wilkin and Tom Lonergan. Also a part of the team was Dean Foster, who insisted on being Ward’s agent. The team was soon recognized by local truck drivers and others returning from work, as part of the scenery on their 2.6 mile run 3 days a week and 6 mile run 2 days a week. Although they ran against a varity of teams, including Vernonia, Catlin Gable, Portland Christian, NCC, and Watonka, James and Ward only ran in four meets. The highlight of the season was the meet hosted by Vernonia when Ward placed 1st and 1-A common sight on fall afternoons, cross country runner Bae 3rd. | cite James Reeher, chalks up the miles in preparation for the qT € coaches were pleased wit the effort of next meet. 2-Cross country team left to right: Ward the first year and are optomistic about future Vandehey, manager Dean Forster, and James Reeher. 3- cross country teams at Jewell High School.
