This is a picture of the first room of the Jewell Elementary School Number 8 The following was taken from the school board minutes: It was voted on August 2, 1919 to raise additional money to build a new schoolhouse because of the increase in the price of building materials. The low bid was $4,502.00 . On October 15, 1919, it was discussed whether or not to omit present ventilating system and the dipping of the shingles. The contractor agreeing to erect a bell tower,which did not show in the plans, without extra cost if these were omitted. Two more rooms were added in 1927, and another in 1959. An interesting fact to note is, that, in 1920 a janitor was paid $5.00 a month for his services. Page 3
