EHQI' Olflflen, . . . . ? The influence and power of women in the modern world cannot be overestimated. The trite expression, Back of every man's success or failure there is always some woman, is scarcely an exaggeration. We needinot look far into history to find confirmation of this truth. We see a Joan of Arc leading an army of men to victoryg a Monica, her son to sanc- tity. A St. Therese de Lisieux was an inspira- tion to soldiers of two world wars! Women of all ages have been the spiritual guides of men. The secret of woman's influence is hard to ascertain. Womanliness - all that is finest and loveliest in human nature - is a com- pound of inherent dignity, natural nobility, religious sensibilities, love. Aware of the influence we can exert upon others, we, products of a Catholic school, must go out into society to lead - we have Christ's philosophy of life as a guide, we have a mission. Women in public life today are largely responsible for destroying the proper concept of woman. Never before have women been so frankly commercialized. Sodalists, we are unable to counteract all the evil influences that cheapen women. How- ever, we can keep the glowing example of our heroic efforts before the eyes of our own family and community - then shall we lift up and inspire our men with a reverence for woman- hood, with a love of the religion which can produce Better Women.

The Blessed Virgin, next to her Son, is the greatest single influence that has ever impressed itself on the character of mankind. Mary, how- ever, passed most of her life doing ordinary household tasks. Our Lady kept in the back- ground until She was called upon to play her role in the public life of Christ. By complying to her duty of state, a sodalist can be a leader too, provided she will, like Mary, uphold an ideal, set a standard, and speak up when called upon to uphold her principles. lt is beliefs that make leaders.
