DEDICA TION Mr. Burton North, Superintendent of the Jesup Community School for fourteen years, has been not only an inspiring school leader, but an interested Jesup citizen who participated in several clubs and initiated several up-to-date school changes. As superintendent, Mr. North started a flourishing Industrial Arts Department, introduced a foreign language, French, a new science course. Chemistry, initi- ated an eighth grade typing course, and was responsible for four additions to our school. During his stay our community school has nearly doubled its enrollment and the number of its faculty members. The area school district jumped from 72 to 110 square miles. Mr. North was born in Bushnell, Il- linois, May 30, 1900, and has attended several colleges, including Parsons, Michigan University, Iowa State University, Co- lumbia University, and State College of Iowa. All of his teaching has been in Iowa. He was a coach at three schools, a Junior High Principal following that, and then rose to the position of Super intendent ship at several others. While living at Jesup, he has been very busy in social, religious, and educational activities. He belongs to the American Legion, Lions, Masonic Lodge, National Edu- cational Association, among others, and was a very active church member, in choir and as an elder. He enjoys music and performed at the local and state level as a vo- calist. Mrs. Margerat North was also well-known in this field as well as in other or- ganizations. Aside from school administration, Mr. North enjoys working on construction, and after retiring will be active in things of his own choosing and enjoyment. Jesup will long remember Mr. North for his words of encouragement and of his wisdom. His friendliness to all of the students, and his interest in each individual is something that will never be forgotten. To you, Mr. North, the Senior Class of 1965 dedicate this annual. 4
