Varsity Baseball ne sport that was not supposed to have a good season was baseball. All doubts about the squad's ability were erased with a fine season, however. First year coach John Crumbley did what no one thought he could do by putting together one of the best teams in the county, bar none. The highly successful season was achieved against a murderous schedule. The Tigers were able to play anybody close due to their surprisingly great pitching. Junior Charlie Seoane was usually called upon to pitch against the best teams. The two senior pitchers were both left-handers that saw a lot of action. They were George Pollock and Lee Mezrah, and they both could be counted on as starters or relievers. The surprise of the staff was junior Eric Luallen, who at the end of the year was the staff's hottest pitcher. The Tiger offense was characterized by speed and hustle. The team's top hitter was shortstop Scott Maciejewski. He was also a member of the strong double-play combination with junior second baseman John Marc Tamayo. Third base was held down by senior Rafael Couret, and Jose Barreiro spent a lot of time at first base. Junior Faustino Dominguez and senior Javier Baldor anchored down the powerful outfield that could throw out runners as well as rack up base hits. Countless others contributed greatly to the excellent success of the 1985 baseball team. The future of baseball at Jesuit indeed looks bright for all concerned. A Lonely Figure.
