Junior Varsity Wrestling I verybody knows that the Varsity Wrestling team had an awesome year, but what most people don't realize is that the JV Wrestling squad dominatedlopponents even more thoroughly. Without a tremendous JV program year in and year out, the wrestling program couldn't be insured of success. Almost every successful wrestler at Jesuit began on the JV team Each year Fr. Peter Callery, S.J. recruits a large assort- ment of prospective grapplers to try out for the wrestling team. The hard work that the wrestlers go through at every practice could rival that of any other athletic team. The work has its rewards, however. This year's team was able to compile an almost perfect record against some stiff compe- tition. The squad easily overpowered such opponents as Tampa Catholic, Springsteacl, and Plant. Many outstanding JV wrestlers are expected to make outstanding contributions to the varsity next year. Junior Mark Smith had an excellent year and often wrestled at the varsity level this year. Sophomore Mike Finger was nearly unstoppable at the JV level and figures to move into a spot on the varsity due to the loss of graduating seniors. Junior Richard Solomon also had a tremendous season and will greatly contribute next year at the varsity level. Next year's JV team will most likely be strong like this year 's due to the return of several freshmen and sophomores as well incom- ing freshmen recruited by Fr. Callery. Back Points.
