Varsity Soccer ne of the most thrilling seasons of the 1984-85 athlet- ic year was provided by the soccer team. Early in the season the squad was rolling along with losses only to a future state champion lLetoJ and a defending state champ lTarpon Springsl. After a close loss to Countryside, tension exploded against rival Clearwater Catholic. After some extremely questionable calls by the referee, two players and the Jesuit coach were ejected. This game was to be the turning point of the season. The interim coach appointed to take over the squad was none other than Mr. Alberto Muniz, S.J. At this point the team became unstoppable. The Tigers proceeded to roll over every opponent in their way. They defeated Tampa Catholic once and tied them a second time. Some other big wins included Chamberlain and a visiting Miami Columbus team. The Tigers were riding a 'fantastic wave of momen- tum entering the district tournament. The squad easily moved into the district semifinal to play rival Tampa Catholic. The Tigers came through by stuffing the Crusaders and moving into the district final. Jesuit captured the title by easily defeating the highly-touted Cow- boys. Then it was on to play the tough Marauders of Clear- water Catholic in the regional title match. Unfortunately, the dream season ended with a heartbreaking loss. The squad could hold their heads up high, however, for they overcame adversity to earn yet another district title for Jesuit.
