Varsity Basketball 'IH asketball is a team sport. lf a team cannot work to- A gether, success is almost impossible. The ability to play as a team had made Jesuit basketball such a success in recent years. Another factor contributing to the excellent season this past year was experience. The backcourt was particularly well-equipped in this area. Guards James Hallock and Ricky Bajo were seniors with a year of considerable playing time under their belts. Ricky was lightning-quick and controlled the fast break. James was an exceptional shooter who could score from the outside or take the ball to the basket. The other guard was senior Mark Easterling, himself a fine shooter and a great athlete who helped greatly with re- bounding. The man in the middle for the Tigers was senior center Steve Brooks. When the squad needed a key basket, the ball often went to Steve. I-le also led the way for the team as far as rebounding went. His sidekick at forward was Mike Riviere, whose leaping ability enabled him to score and rebound when needed. Key bench support was provided by juniors Matt Kovac, Joe Caballero, and Chris Casper. Each of these players would enter the game when needed and pick up the slack. The rest of the squad cannot be forgotten either. Without the entire team working together, such a great season could never have happened. With the excellent coaching of Coach John Szponar and the return of juniors and sopho- mores, next year looks bright for Jesuit basketball. Q M., .... ...sf Steam Roller Steve.
