This was the conclusion of a contest in which Jones scored 34 points and Westbury scored 0 points. Action began in the second quarter when Louie Gavrel passed to Johnny Bingham for a touch- down. Then, injured Dan Dawsey intercepted a pass and scored another T.D. The extra point on this play was good. The third quarter saw the continuation of this Falcon drive. Mike Clem- ents made the outstanding play of the night by running' 75 yards for a touchdown. Westbury regained the ball and Dan Dawsey made another fine interception. Alan Smith then ran over the goal line for a T.D. The fourth quarter saw the Falcons go on a pass intercepting spree. Action began rapidly in the first half and was highlighted by a tremen- dous touchdown pass from Louie Gavrel to Mike Clements. The Fkalcons continued to hold their own until the third quarter when .4 . ff 3 Q. Jssession of the ball. the Jackets snapped to life. Port Arthur scored a touchdown. This was followed by a two point conversion. The fourth quarter marked another Jacket drive. Port Arthur then scored their second touchdown. The final score was Port Arthur 14-, Jones 6. The battle against the Waltrip Rams proved to he just as heartbreaking as the Port Arthur game. .lones valiantly held the Rams at bay for three hectic quarters. However, as the fourth quarter dawned, things looked dismal for the Falcon Eleven. Waltrip scored a T.D. and Jones remained scoreless for the rest of the game. Lamar The Ups and Downs Jones' homecoming was partially spoiled by a defeat at the hands of the Lamar Redskins. Action began rapidly in the first few minutes of the game when Lamar scored two points on a safety. This scoring drive continued into the second half. Lamar scored a touchdown. The Falcons were able to contain the Redskin tide until the fourth quarter. Lamar scored another touchdown. George Pache With only ten minutes left to play, Louie Cavrel passed to Larry Bailey for a touchdown. The team tried to continue this scoring streak, but failed. ac e The final score was Lamar 16, J ones 6. Tackle Charles Tucker T kl An eerie fog covered Delmar Stadium as the Falcons prepared to do battle with the Bellaire Cardinals. Jones received the kick and held things on an even keel until the last minutes of the first half. Then Donald Robicheaux intercepted a pass and ran thirty yards for a touchdown. This action continued into the second half as Scott Sands, Ted Scruggs, and George Davis teamed up to pro- duce some outstanding running plays. Ted Scruggs scored the second Falcon touchdown during one of these plays. The Cardinals stirred to life in the final moments of the game and scored a touchdown. They tried des- perately to score again, but failed. When the final buzzer sounded, the score was Jones 14, Bellaire 6. l43
