Falcons Go l-l in Out-of-Town Games BAYTOWN NIPS JONES 12-7 jones' one loss of the regular season came at Baytown. jones scored the first time they had the ball. Tommy Maxwell ran for the TD and Teddy Caniff kicked the PAT, but Baytown held their lead to win. jones Baytown First Downs 9 11 Yards Passing 97 58 Yards Rushing 76 165 Total Yards 173 203 Falcons kick off to Baytown. Van Brown rolls out to pass against Port Arthur. JONES SHOCKS Pom' ARTHUR jones' come-from-behind win showed Jones a state power. jones took the leadlbut lost if 21-14. Then a Brown to Maxwell pass and a two point pass to Ronnie Pierce saved the game. jones P.A. First Downs 12 22 Yards Passing 86 54 Yards Rushing 138 225 Total Yards 224 279 Falcons Whip Lee 22-13 Jones continued their show of power with a win over tough Lee. jones' only score 'til the fourth quarter was a field goal by Teddy Caniff. Behind 13-3, Jones decided to do something. On the first play of the fourth quarter jones scored on a 61-yard pass play. Then came a 57-yard TD pass and then a short run to give the win. Now jones was ready for district. Falcons Upset Defending City Champs, 7-0 Faster than a bullet straighter than an arrow. This win over the defending city champs showed Iones was good, but few people thought Jones would be the new city champs. In took the Fal- cons three quarters to score but Gary Brown ended a fifty-yard drive with a nine-yard plunge to paydirt. Teddy Caniff kicked the extra point to end the scoring. Jones Waltrip First Downs Yards Passing Yards Rushing 17 17 39 91 253 41 Total Yards 292 132 Jones Rolls Over Milby, 21-8 Jones got their second victory with a 21-8 win over East-End rival Milby. Only half of the stadium lights were on for eleven minutes but this didn't bother Van Brown. On the first play from scrimmage, he threw a 57-yard 'I'D pass. jones did even better with the lights on. A Tough Falcon Defense Crumbles the Rebel Charge, 16- 14 The Falcon boys seem to enjoy keeping the crowds on edge with close scores. Never- theless, the Falcon team pre- vailed. It was simply a case of too much speed as Van chalked up 110 yards rushing on 12 carries and 69 yards passing to pave the way. Teddy Gold- en-Toe Caniff bounced a 26- yard field goal off his foot in -the 5rd quarter and Van flipped a nine-yarder to Steve Tunstall early in the fourth to finish it up. Rusty Clark also learned to think before speak- ing! 7 Van Brown breaks lose for 37 yards and 6 points. Vlestbury jones First Downs 16 13 Total Net Yards 215 247 Hitters Have a Sealping Party, 32 Bounding around on the football field like a bunch of fpardon the expressionj wild Indians, the Falcons scored their fourth straight victory. Brown and Brown were the colors for the night as they scored all but one touchdown. Gary, who carried the ball 15 times for 70 yards scored three of them, one on a five-yard pass from Van. Van scampered across the two yard line for the final six points. The Falcons took advantage of two Lamar mistakes to put their 1st thirteen points on the scoreboard, in the last three minutes of the lst quarter. Ted Scruggs and Donald McGraw combined to set up the first on the Redskin 20. Lamar's troubles were only beginning. The kickoff sailed in and out of the arms of a Lamar receiver. The Falcons then moved 61 yards in 5 plays. Wayne Tolar Morgan shot up the middle for the last 6. The An immovable force hits an irresistible object. 16
