Falcons Upset Defending City Champs, 7-0 Faster than a bullet straighter than an arrow. This win over the defending city champs showed Iones was good, but few people thought Jones would be the new city champs. In took the Fal- cons three quarters to score but Gary Brown ended a fifty-yard drive with a nine-yard plunge to paydirt. Teddy Caniff kicked the extra point to end the scoring. Only half of the stadium lights were on for eleven minutes but this didn't bother Van Brown. On the first play from scrimmage, he threw a 57-yard 'I'D pass. jones did even better with the lights on. A Tough Falcon Defense Crumbles the Rebel Charge, 16- 14 The Falcon boys seem to enjoy keeping the crowds on edge with close scores. Never- theless, the Falcon team pre- vailed. It was simply a case of too much speed as Van chalked up 110 yards rushing on 12 carries and 69 yards passing to pave the way. Teddy Gold- en-Toe Caniff bounced a 26- yard field goal off his foot in -the 5rd quarter and Van flipped a nine-yarder to Steve Tunstall early in the fourth to finish it up. The Falcons took advantage of two Lamar mistakes to put their 1st thirteen points on the scoreboard, in the last three minutes of the lst quarter. Ted Scruggs and Donald McGraw combined to set up the first on the Redskin 20. Lamar's troubles were only beginning. The kickoff sailed in and out of the arms of a Lamar receiver.
