C. Treadway, the 1964 varsity compiled the best record of any other jones team. The team won the city championship losing only one game on the way and went on to be Bi-district champs. jones started the season with a win over Waltrip, the defending city champs, 7-0. Then jones whipped Milby, 21-8. Next came Baytown, 0-7. This was the one loss of the scheduled season. jones tried hard to win but the clock ran out. Then came a big win over state-ranked Port Arthur, 22-21. jones came home to beat Lee, 22-13. Jones won district with a perfect record. The first and toughest opponent was Westbury, but they fell, 16-14. The team gave the student-body a Homecoming present by scalping the Lamar Redskins, 32-16. This year jones broke the Bellaire jinx to beat Bellaire for the first time in the school's history, 13-6. jones rolled over San Iac, 26-6, and then wiped out Austin 35-15 for district. Jones beat Lee a second time for the city championship, 34-14, and then shocked Spring Branch, 13-7, for Bi-district. The long season came to an end with a 21-0 loss to Galena Park in the Quarterfinals. Because of his fine work W. C. Treadway was named Coach of the Year by the sportswriters for a second time.
