Falcons Tear Up Bobcats, 10-6 Coach Marshall and Varsity player look on in anticipation as the Cy-Fair game starts. 114-Sp fi We may not have made playoffs. We may not have won every game. But, for the first time in jersey Village history we out-scored and out-played, down the road rivals, Cy-Fair, 10-6. lt was a cool night on the twenty-seventh of October when the jersey Village Falcons played host to the Cy-Fair Bobcats in the Cypress Fairbanks Stadium. Cary Gryder booted the first three points with 11:18 to go in the second period on a 28-yard field goal. With 7:39 left in the half defensive back, Pat Zaiontz stepped in front of a Cy-Fair receiver and intercepted a pass, racing 18 yards for the score. Gryder kicked the extra point giving jersey Village a 10-O lead, which the Falcons held through intermission. The Bobcats scored in the fourth quarter capping a 75-yard, eight play drive. With less than 4 minutes to go, the Bobcat offense started a new drive inside their own territory. Eating up yardage and the clock, Cy-Fair was faced with a fourth and one on their own 48- yard line. Cy-Fair quarterback, jeff Nelson took the snap from the center and began to sweep to the left side of the j.V. line. With no warning Nelson shuffled the ball to his tight end gain- ing a first down, keeping the drive alive. Some 8 plays later Cy-Fair was again faced with a fourth down, this time on the j.V. 13- yard line, with 8 yards to go. Cy-Fair broke its huddle with 63 seconds left. Nelson dropped back to pass. With the ball in air, a target in sight and the game in hand, out of nowhere weak safety, Cary Cryder came through for the Falcons. Gryder swatted down the ball, with arms like a giant fly swatter. jersey Vil- lage only lacked 54 seconds to become victo- rious. Winning the game was the climax of the football season. It will be remembered always by both the Bobcats and the Falcons. The memory of the night the Bobcat fight died. Dennis LeCroy shows his spirit during the Cy-Fa game. The Falcons show their feelings after they the Bobcats.

Mid- way through the fourth quarter, l.V. back Maurice Hurt romped 30 yards for the sec- ond Falcon score. This was followed by an extra point kicked by defense back Gary Cryder. The next week the Falcons faced the Alief Bears. A short Hasting punt set up the only Fal- con score as junior r9780,2 quarterback Bob Hary sprinted 27 yards aroundth end for a touchdown. Cary Gryder kicked the extra point. The 7-15 loss was the begin- ning of a five game losing streak which saw the Falcons scoring a total of 14 points during that stretch. The Falcons were shut out by Spring Branch, Aldine, and McCullough, 0-23, 0-43, and 0-29, respec- tively. The Falcons were able to score once in the Klein game. October 20th was Homecoming for l.V.
