FALCON SPIRIT GOES ON INSPITE OF BOBCAT WIN the victory 18-13 Spirits were building all week to take on the school down the road, the Cy-Fair Bobcats. Spirit was at its peak when the Falcons kicked off. Fans were cheering with pride and excitement practically on every play. The Falcons fought hard, and on each play they seemed to become more ambitious. It was a game of games even though the Falcons were defeated. Senior tight end, Dennis Jones, caught a 15 yard pass from quarterback Quinn Sharpe for J.V.'s only score. The final outcome was the Bobcats 21, the Falcons 6. As the night ended the Bobcats knew one thing for sure, that the 0 Falcons were never defeated mentally. The Jersey Village Fighting Falcons are made up of 27 seniors, 9 iuniors, and 1 sophomore. Each was an asset in his own wayto the team. The pride and sportsmanship was well represented in each and every player. They were a team win or lose with great respect for each others' abilities. The Falcons are a close team and worked hard to play their best, Good sportsmanship is the name ot the game, and the Falcons played it admirably. inthe district opener against the Spring Lions, 29-22. lt was the first victori- ous homecoming in Jersey Village history. Senior running back Don Mathews and Junior back Roger Pillow together contributed four touchdowns. Defen- sive end David Teas blocked a punt which set up the winning touchdown. Jersey Village played host to the Conroe Tigers in a strenuous game. The Tigers lit up the scoreboard with high numbers, but the Falcons effort pre- vented a shut out with a final score 40-3. The Klein Bearcats creeped by the Falcons 14-7 in Klein Stadium..Senior running back Don Mathews found holes in the Bearcat defensive line and headed up field 16 yards for a touchdown. Gary Gryder kicked the extra point. The Bearcats came back late in the fourth quarter for the victory. If the Jersey Village Falcons showed the Bryan Vikings one thing, that was how to play football. Gary Gryder gave the Falcons a 6-0 lead in the second quarter with field goals of 32 and 35 yards. Then Don Mathews, senior run- ,Vning back received a kickoff and burst through the Vikings coverage for a 94 1+-i'yard Falcon touchdown. Despite tremendous efforts the Vikings claimed l Coach Marshall and Coach Meeks explains the next offensive play to their players in the game against Cy-Fair. Don Mathews sweeps right end through the Cy-Fair The battle field awaits as the troops Bobcats' come marching on. Henry Williams uses his skills in run- ning with the ball. Pat Zaiontz hangs on for dear life as i he tackles opponent. Sports - 39
