VARSITY FALCONS END A SEASON OF HIGH HOPES The Jersey Village Varsity Falcons were a team with high hopes in the new season of 1977. It began September 1, 1977, with a defeat over the Scarbrough Spartans, 6-O. The Varsity Falcons then payed a visit to the top rated Huntsville Hornets. Senior running backs Don Mathews and Wayne Singleton put two touchdowns on the scoreboard and Gary Gryder kicked the extra points. The Falcons were at long last defeated 58-14. lt was a warm night when the Falcons met with the Spring Wood Tigers in Tully Stadium. Don Matthews scored the only touchdown for the Jersey Village Fal- cons as they were defeated 14-7. Rod Warmke, Shan- non Lauve, Dennis Locroy and David Teas each had one interception. - uski

A Brand New Season for the Falcons The game was perfect from beginning to end. The Falcons just couldn't go wrong. The Falcon Defense halted three Alief Hastings close scoring drives inside the 20 to cap a 10- 6 victory over the undefeated Bears. All scoring occurred in the first half. Falcon quarterback Gary Gryder led an 18-play, 80 yard drive, which saw Gryder in for a touch- down. The extra point was good. With 23 sec- onds left in the first half, Gryder kicked a 29 yard field goal. Junior defensive guard, Dennis Lecroy had an interception in the game. Senior back, Shannon Lauve booted a 64-yard punt in the game. It was a game full of excitement and a victory well awarded. t The Spring Branch Bears defeated the Fal- cons but with nothing less than extra hard motivation on their part. The Bears had three touchdowns wiped out because of penalties.
