During graduation, the seniors held their attention with perfection and that madefor a very nice ceremony. ls my hat straight? Which side does the tassle go on? Let's practice shaking hands. With which hand do I receive the diploma? These and many such com- ments were heard as seniors stood in their respective tunnels under Hofheinz Pavilion and waited for their commencement exercises to begin. Finally the line began to move and seniors held their breath and took that long walk for which they had waited so long. The feeling experienced during that three minute walk is something that cannot be described but is something that must be lived through. Finally, they made it to their seats and the ceremony began. The stands were rather empty to the disap- pointment of some and the relief of others. Salutato- rian John Carey gave the invocation and Clay Vernon gave the Valedictory speech which was the shortest in the history of J.V., but it was also the BEST! Then stu- dent Congress president Agnes Emmott introduced guest speaker Rev. Daniel Steere, Assoc. Pastor ofthe First Methodist Church. He spoke on that even though they feel that they are, very few people give 100'Ki of their total resources, also he gave ways in which the graduates could begin to give more to get more out of life. Next lVlr. Truitt presented the candidates for grad- uation to Superintendent Allen Labay who presented them with 288 diplomas which he just happened to have on him. Many students were so nervous that they forgot to turn their tassle. Next Flussell Frank, Senior Class President gave the benediction and the choir gave their choral benediction. Accompanied by the band and choir the Seniors stood and sang the school song. AND finally led by Clay Vernon and John Carey, the GRADUATED class of Jersey Village High School for 1978 marched out as the band played the recessional. Then as usual came the many happy and sad tears. 220 Senior Life What Seems the End ls the Beginning Ramona Savoie and Darrell Schindler take the first step toward the graduating ceremony, with fear!
