Texas is a state that is enjoying a boom in growth. Growth that means more people and more construction. Students enrolled in Industrial arts here at JV are prepared with instruc- tion in many area of these arts which include, Drafting, Woodwork, Metal- shop, Power Mechanics, and General Craft. General Drafting teaches the funda- mental principles of drafting. It is a study of letting, orthographic projec- tion, freehand sketching, dimension- ing, auxiliary, sectioning, and fabrica- tion drawing. Woodwork is designed for 9th and 10th grade students interested in working with wood. Fundamentals of shop safety, care of the shop, and the skills in the care and the use of hand and power tools. General Metals include the stu- dents' introduction to safety rules in the metal shop. Students also experi- ence the fundamentals of a foundry and learn metal casting. Power Mechanics is a study of selected power units, their design, theory of operation and function. The course was organized so that funda- mentals covered in lectures and dem- onstrations are reinforced by regular scheduled laboratory work with mock- up, models, cutaways, and small line engines. Students perform experi- ments to determine physical and oper- ational characteristics of power units. Areas covered in this course are leather, plastics, jewelry and art metal. Other areas might be added to enrich the course. Industrial craft pro- vides opportunities for the student to apply principles of design, practice self-discipline, learn to appreciate and use tools, practice safety and develop a skill. 202 - Faculty-Academics .CR FT ICS ECH LSH P ET RK D DR FTI Junior Gary Gryder works desperately to finish his project before the fair. if.
