Fundamentals of Math I and ll, Tri- gonometry, Geometry, Algebra, Calcu- lus, and Mathematics of Consumer Education CMOCEJ are some of the courses which conprise the Nlath Department. Fundamentals of lVlath I and ll are supplementary courses involving basic mathematical skills. Some of the major topics developed in this course are elementary theory, beginning geometry, consumer bank- ing, and problem solving as related to daily living. During the year, students wracked their brains on worksheets, filling out income tax forms and num- ber theory problems. To prepare for Algebra, students began with Intro- ductory Algebra I and ll. These partic- ular classes introduce familiar con- cepts taught in Algebra. For many stu- dents Algebra didn't come so easy. Algebra I includes a study of set nota- tion, the relations of equality and ine- quality, absolute value of real num- bers, factoring, and the solution of word problems. All students were required to use their protractors and Compasses in Geometry. Topics include relations of perpendicularity, parallelism, congruency, similarity, equality, and inequality. Algebra ll and Trigonometry involve advanced algebraic and geometric skills in Alge- bra ll, the study of quadratics equa- tions is extended to include their solu- tion by the quadratic formula, the rela- tions representing the conic sections and systems of quadratic open sen- tences. Most distinguished honor stu- dents had Calculus and Elementary Analysis in their math curriculum. In Calculus limits of functions, continu- ity, and derivatives were studied in detail. Both indefinitive and definitive integrals are explored, with applica- tions to area and volume. Analytic Geometry includes a review of trigono- metry from the analytic stand point.
