In preparation for college, seniors were required to take English IV. The English IV team consists of Mrs. Kahla, team leader and department chairman, and Mrs. Collings. ln the fall, seniors studied a Hero unit. ln correlation to the studies, students saw Lonely Are the Brave and Oedipus the King. Later during the year seniors watched Tam- ing ofthe Shrew. ln January, the Can- terbury Tales were analyzed. In spring, students saw Far From the Maddening Crowd and Cyrano de Bergerac. Com- munication Skills taught by Mrs. Tatum and Mrs. Collings is a fused course in lit- erature and composition. Speech and Drama were instructed by Mrs. Stice. During the year, speech was involved in activities such as pantomimes, tourna- ments, and speech interp. ln the fall drama classes put on the play MacBeth for the seniors. ln Janu- ary, Drama sponsored a dinner theatre in which advanced drama students put on the classical production The Butler Did lt. Journalism l and ll are taught by Mr. Zirkel. It is an in depth study of newspa- per and yearbook. He is also the sponsor ofthe school yearbook and newspaper. The Social Studies team con- sists of American History, World History, Government and CVAE History. American History is composed of Mr. Oliphantg team leader Mr. Smiley, Mrs. Swasey, and Mr. Meek. During the year, freshmen studied a Civil War Unit, the Westward expansion, Business and Labor, the Spanish Ameri- can War, and American Expedi- tion. In September, students started with a review of the Civil War. The highlight of this period of studying was when the fresh- men saw The Cowboys star- ring John Wayne. ln November, students studied Reconstruc- tion and Westward Expan- sion. ln March, freshmen traced the growth of Business and Labor Unions. In December, students saw the award winning movie Dr. Zhivago. ln the spring, they saw films such as Tora, Tora, Tora and Pat- ton, to enhance their study of the American Expeditions. The World History team con- sists of Mrs. Daughtryg team leader, Mrs. Hill, and Mr. Clay- ton, Department Chairperson. During the year, juniors studied a feudalism unit. Later they par- ticipated in a road game on their study of imperialism. In March, juniors watched films such as Night Of The Fog to enhance the study of World War ll.
