The Student Congress is made up of four different branches, The Cabinet, Judicial Branch, Senate and House of Represent- atives. Each branch performs a special duty of its own. For example, the Cabinet and the Judicial branches interpret and enforce the laws, while the Sen- ate and House of Representa- tives make the laws. At Christmas time the Student Congress furnished and deco- rated the Christmas tree that was displayed in the commons. Ornaments with names placed on them were sold to help raise money for the budget. For home- coming game, the Student Con- gress sold links for the spirit chain to help buy material and a gift for the new homecoming queen. 156 Organization ,,,- up Q Maureen Wilburn help decorate Christrnas tree for commons. Speech consists of several stages of developmental course designed to lay a foun- dation for future courses in speech. The course is primar- ily to develop the students' public speaking. Speech- Debate II is designed to develop and improve the abili- ties of purples to state, ana- lyze, and translate problems and possible solutions into terms acceptable to the audi- ence. Finally Speech-Debate III and IV is designed to gain a general understanding of the major forms which debating assumes. If you are a member of the Le Cercle De Francais you are a student interested in the French culture. According to Mrs. Toni See- gar the bake sales have been very prosperous this year, and was the chief means of raising money. When the famous Cez'anne collection was on exhibit at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, students toured the col- lection before it traveled back to Paris. Coz'anne's work has been brought together from museums and private collec- tions from all over the world.
