The ancient peo- ple wore these charms in the form ' 5 of a necklace rather than a brace- let because, in early times, a brace- 'lag let was a symbol of slavery. In our 4 modern day, although charms are used chiefly for ornaments, they do characterize definite features in life. We have used a charm bracelet for the theme of our book this year. Each charm portrays a phase of our school life.
