J, . .5 The idea of charms is as old as man himself. The world's first charms were used for averting ill , fortune and evil. The ancient peo- ple wore these charms in the form ' 5 of a necklace rather than a brace- let because, in early times, a brace- 'lag let was a symbol of slavery. In our 4 modern day, although charms are used chiefly for ornaments, they do characterize definite features in life. We have used a charm bracelet for the theme of our book this year. Each charm portrays a phase of our school life. As you leaf through the pages of THE ORANGE AND N BLACK, you will see how we have assembled our charm bracelet and ,ax . will become intimately acquainted S with the functioning of the intricate mechanism known as J. X . v 1 New ' Like the Silver Charms, Uur Athletes Are of Sterling Character O The Bulldog Is Forever Barking The 1956 Bulldog Team showed the fire and the promise of the old Susquehanna Conference champs. Despite the fact that they only chalkecl up one win in the season's play, that win was one of the upsets of the League. They held a scrappy Blooms- burg High team scoreless in the closing weeks of a hard-fought season. Head Coach Leo Sticinski and assistants Laugh- lin lennings, Dan Hinlcel, and Bill Graff did an excellent job of snapping the boys into the good playing form that toolc them through a season of rugged schedules with a promising, if not spec- tacular, showing. Senior team members bowing out of high school grid iron clashes include: Bob Huffman, Dave Porter, Fred Dyroff, Bonnie Markle, Floyd Hoffman, and Frank Orgitano. BAND The band's work began with their first of many re- hearsals, on September the fourth. During the year events such as playing at the Flaming Foliage Festival and Vice-President Nixon's Reception in Williamsport, highlighted the regular schedule of football games, pep assemblies, and parades. They, in each case, give a good impression of the Jersey Shore High School. ln Ianuary the senior members were treated to a pleasure trip to Harrisburg and the Hershey Ice Capades. After drilling and playing for the football games the band plunges into, and prepares a Spring Concert. This concert is presented annually to a very receptive audience of those who enjoy good music. The band is directed by Frank L. Schoendorfer and is supported by the Band Mother's Organization. 49 FRANK L. SCHOENDORFER Director ORCHESTRA First Row, Left tn Righlfs. Noblit. T. Rlerlcel, D. SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Mr. Larson, R. Lehman, F. Orgitano, C. Taylor, T. Todd. SENIOR CLASS When we entered S. A. H. S. we were quite uncertain of ourselves. We made one bold step, however, in entertaining the upperelassmen with a class party. Guiding our cautious movements that year were: President. Tom Todd, Vice-President, Ralph Lehman, Secretary. Zee Seasholtz, Trea' surer, Frank Orgitano, and Adviser, Mr. Larson. Confidence crept into our hearts and we began to lift our heads higher in our sophomore year as we entertained with a eagey class party and chose real cool class rings. Leading us that year were: President, Toni Todd, Vice-President, Ralph Lehman, Secretary, Conley Taylor, Treasurer. Frank Orgitano, and Adviser, Mr. Bowes. At long last we were upperclassmen. No confidence was needed then. only anticipation of what awaited us the following year. XVe really strutted our colors that year with our class play Cheaper By the Dozen and our dreamy Junior-Senior Prom which was accented hy a tropical isle. NVQ also presented a tape-recorder as a class memorial. At the helm that year were: President, Ralph Lehman, Vice-President, Tom Todd, Secretary, Conley Taylor, Treasurer, Frank Orgitano, and Adviser, Mr. Loekard. Now we have attained our end. Nothing is left to conquer, our destiny is secure. We produced Time Out For Ginger as our class play this year. All of our remaining energies were directed toward graduation preparation. The sky was our limit and as our pilots we chose: President, Ralph Lehman, Vice-President, Tom Todd, Secretary, Conley Taylor, Treasurer, Frank Orgitano, and Adviser, Mr. Larson. 54 SENIOR COMMITTEES N,XMIf CXIID ,IND CLASS 'IIIII' --iii H 'K Y'-ff - L ... xg l'OMMIiNl'IfMIfN'l' l'0AlMl'I I'Ifl' I7iv'sl lIuu', lvfl In IIigI1If-J.
