This heartrending story proved stirring to all those who attended. The purpose of the play was to contrast the warm hearted--although mentally disturbed--people from The C1oister's Rest Home with those of the insane, outside world. The play opens in the living room of The Cloisters in a town in Massachussetts. The people living there are isolated in a small world of make-believe. Soon, however, their world is changed by the coming of Mrs. Savage, who was placed at The C1oisters by her three step- children. Mrs. Savage is being taken advantage of by her step-children whose scheme is to take her money from her by attempting to prove their step-mother mentally incapable. Mrs. Savage is far too clever, nevertheless, and soon outsmarts her over-anxious step'children. Added to the sensitive clear portrayals ofthe characters there is a mystery running through- out the play. The antics of Mrs. Savage's companions at The C1oisters are humorous and heart-warming leaving her deeply touched as she again enters the outside world. The cast included: the guests at The C1oisters g FlorencefMary Stakej, whose son was but a figment of her mindg Hannibal CRobert Lewisy, a mathematician with delusions that he was a great violinistg Fairy May Uoyce Robsonp, whose deep feelings of inadequacy sem her in search of people who would love herg J' effrey CLeo Whitworthj, a veteran whose scars were of the soul and not of the sking and Mrs. Paddyf Darlene Smithj, whose self-enforced silence created problems. On November 30, 1956, the Junior Class presented 'a three-act comedy, SEVENTEEN IS TERRIFIC, by Esther E, Olson. Chuck borrowed thelfamily car without premission which resulted in no allowance for two weeks. The spring dance was coming up in two weeks, so Chuck tried everything in order that he could finance a date with his girl, Ginny Grant. Chuck had a little competition with Hugo Jarvis, a mature sophisticated youth with a red jalopy and apparently ready cash, Along with Chuck's problem, the doctor had' a more serious financial problem, one that amounted to five thousand dollars mortgage which was due. The Allenbys hired a new maid, Hannah Hawks, a raw-boned country girl who seemed to have a poetic bent and well worked out plans for getting a husband. Finally all troubles were solved when two men went to the Allenby's farm to hunt and fortunately, discovered a cave. After all the complications, a humorous conclusion is reached, so that all the young folks are happily paired off to go to the dance. The typical Allenby family consisted of Dr. Allenby, a daitist with sore feet, Sandy Spottsg Grandma Wagner, who had come to live with the Allenby's after her daughter's death, Theda Denney, Chuck Allenby, an adolescent youth with a knack for finding trouble, Russell Zickefooseg Barbie, an eager young girl with a passion for clothes and Hugo, Annette Ablesg Janie, a fourteen year old, whose only interest is cheerleading, .T eanne Maxwell: and Billie the thirteen year old who feels he is a very good detective, Kenny Kerr. It was the end of a two year-sixteen game winning streak. However, there were a few thrills which will be hard to forget. Probably highest ln the minds of the fans is the game with Perrysville which ended in a 20-20 tie. It was a hard fought game right down to the wire. Also there is the victory over Sullivan in which the Bobcats threatened very heavily in the final minutes of the game, A high light of the season to anyone who watched him play was J'eromesvi1le's versatile lim McKinley. In the post season Jim was honored by being voted the only unanimous choice for the County All-Star team. He was also chosen by the Ashland Times Gazette as the Most out- standing Football Player in Ashland county which is a very hiyi honor. Also in the All-Star team was George Kissel who was placed on the second team as center. Jim Cutlip was the high scorer on the club with '10 points. J' im McKinley was second with 58. Jim Urban was third with 19 and Robert Lewis was fourth with 18 points. Much of the lack of success can be credited to the heavy graduation of last year. However, for next year Coach Valentine will have available many underclassmen who saw quite a lot of action this year. Those lettermen who will be returning next year are Ray Hall, Dean Smith, Dick Stull, Waidell Welkel, Keith Hoverstock, J im Urban, .Terry Whitworth. and Tom Urban. 0 l , 610 M2 fa v,,.w..W.,,, , V .4 f 1 Jim McKinley Jim Cutlip Robert Lewis Y QT! As in football much of the blame can be put in the heavy turn over at graduation last year. Even under these con ditions the Jerries put up some mighty good scraps. Probably best in the eyes of the fans was the second Perrysville game which was lost by one point. The highlight of the season was the constant good play of Jim McKinley, who was picked by the coaches as Ashland County's most valuable basketball player. Jim was Jeromesville s highest scorer with 249 points. Next was Dick Stull with 176. The basketball prospects for next season are good, as Juniors Jerry Strine, Phil Frckes and Jim Cutlipg and Sophomores Dick Stull and Wendell Weikel will be back, along with some me looking Junior Varsity players. They started the year out by beating Milford Center. They then beat Ruggles-Troy, Savannah, and Sullivan to take the Ashland County Tournament championship. The Jerries then went on to beat Homer in the District but lost to Northwestern in the semi-finals. .Tim McKinley and Jack Messner again shared the pitching duties and both did a very fine job. The infield consisted of Jim and J ack alternating at short-stop, along with Bill Hopkins at first, Rex, Smith ,at second, and Russ Cutlip at third. The aim is to include as many girls as possible in the noon program and to make activities as interesting as possible by competition in tournaments. Every girl in high school is eligible to belong to the G.A.C. if she has completed two team sports during the school year. This year the G. A,C. has forty-three members. The team sports offered this year were basekick ball, softball, volleyball, and basketball.
