Briggs, H, Cooper. We, the Seniors of 1956, started to climb the ladder of success in the year 1945. Our class roll then numbered 33. As we progressed through grade school we lost several classmates and gained several new ones. The year 1953 found 30 freshmen entering the portals of Jeromesville High School, eager to start their high school career. By the end of this eventful year we had lost Nancy Snellen- berger, Mary Gilley, Richard Domer, and Ronald Lance, but we gained one new member, Nancy Barton. As we climbed to the tenth rung of our ladder, David Harris, David Triesler, and Janet Dysinger had joined our ranks. On the eleventh rung, the class roll increased by one, Jim Ebert, who came from Wooster, Ohio. One of the memorable events of this year was the presentation of the class play on Novem- ber 19, which was entitled Kind Lady. Another date long remembered by all was May 20. This was the night of the J unior-Senior Prom, This was the major event of the year, and every member of the class worked hard to make it a success. The work paid off, and the gymnasium was trans- formed into striking replica of the glamorous Stork Club. At the top of the ladder we found Nancy Barton and Jim Ebert going separate ways, and as we ended the year 1956, our class record contained 31 names, On April 20, 1956, the class play, Ten Little Indians, was presented. Baccalaureate exercises were held on May 20, with the seniors receiving their diplomas or1 May 24, at Commencement. The grand climax of the year 1956, the senior trip, foimd the Seniors invading New York for a week of fun and relaxation. M. L3.I1dl'1'13.I'l I . Messner 'Vie C. Spnng B. 85 P. Hopkins M. Glasgo B. The school paper, CHIT CHAT, is a monthly publication of the activities of Jeromes- ville High School. The editor, Millie J o Landman, attended a journalism workshop at Ohio University at Athens. While at this workshop she was chosen co-editor of the STREAMLINER, the rnimeographed paper published at the workshop. Also the editor and assistant editors, Diane Straits and Darlene Smith, represented the staff at a week-end workshop at Ohio State University in October. The paper was criticized at both places and many suggestions were given for improvements to be made in the following years. This year brought a new adviser, Miss Eunice Heid, a recent graduate of Capital University, to express her ideas and suggest ways of improving the CHIT CHAT. In May a picnic is held for the pleasure of the staff who have worked hard to make the CHIT CHAT the best paper the school has ever had. SOClAl COIUITIIIIGG FIRST ROW: C. Gregory, C. Smith, T. This story of mystery and suspense with touches of comedy was entertaining for all who saw it or took part in it. The ten little Indians are china figurines which present the clue to an orgy of mysterious murders on an island off the coast of England. Ten guests are invited to an estate on Indian Island by a mysterious host whom none of them have ever seen. When the guests arrived they found that their host had been detained, but they were told to make themselves comfortable. By the end of the first evening two of the guests had been murdered, and the rest of them were too frightened to think straight. From this point on pandemonium reigned. One by one the guests were found murdered, and for each murder, one of the china Indians was found smashed. Suspicion rested on every member of the party, but just as the audience had nearly convicted someone, that person was found with a bullet through his skull, or pushed off a cliff. The suspense rose rapidly, and it never declined tmtil the final curtain fell. The cast included: Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, caretakers of the house, Ronald Eagle and Roma Clark: Fred Narracott, a boatman from the mainland, Bob Zickefooseg Vera Claythorne, a pretty, young secretary, Mary Ann Glasgog Philip Lombard, a gay young adventurer with an eye for young ladies, Bill Kylerg Annie Marston, a young speed demon, Millie Jo Landmang William Blore, a suspicious-looking private detective, Mike Aberg General MacKenzie, a somewhat dazed old Army general, Ray LintgSir Lawrence Wargrave, adistinguished judge, Bill Hopkinsg Emily Brent, a self- righteous old Spinster, Lorene Smith, Dr. Armstrong, aprominent nerve specialist, ,T ack Messner. The student director, who took a lot of responsibility for the success of the presentation, was Joyce Stake. The director was Mrs, Olive Murray. The seniors wish to thank Mrs. Murray for her patience as well as her great technical advice and guidance. Junlon pta Cast FIRST ROW, Left to Right: M. Billotte, D. Smith, B. Lewis,T. Crosland. J. On November 18, 1955, the junior class presented GIRL CRAZY, a three-act comedy. The stage was completely transformed into a dude ranch. Danny Churchill, played by Jim McKinley, was the owner. He had to live on the ranch for a year before he could inherit it from his father. Robert Lewis played Louie, the New York cab driver who had driven Danny to Arizona. Wilbur Hardy portrayed Jake, the crippled old caretaker of the ranch, who thought everything in the West was wonderful. Anyone thinking that the sand and broiling sun were not wonderful was likely to be shot on sight. While on the ranch Danny meets andfalls in love with Molly, the local postmistress, who was played by Teresa Crosland. She is the only interesting girl around until Tess, Mary Stake, comes out and gives her some competition with Danny. Rose, a Brooklyn telephone switchboard operator, was played by Darlene Smith. Rose spent the majority of her time chasing Louie. Rex Smith played the part of Sam Mason, a New York acquaintance of Danny's, Sam was hardly a friend, because he and Danny had fought over Tess when both of them knew her in New York. Lank, portrayed by Leo Whitworth, was thevillian who became angry when he heard of Danny's plans for building a night club to rival Lank's club. Jerry Sours played the part of Lank's hench- man, a sly, suspicious-looking Mexican. Larry Budd, Maurice Billotte, George Kissel, and BillCook played local residents--cowboys, Indians, and State polioernen. Playing tourists who were spending their vacations on Danny's dude ranch were Carol New- meyer, Faye Domer, LeEtta McClure, Dixie Galliher, and J oyoe Robson. The Blue Jays not only clinched the titles of County Champions and Undefeated, but also claimed the mythical state six-man football championship, The Blue Jays were powered this year by All-Ohio Russ Cutlip. Russ broke the national scor- ing record of 203 points with a new high of 213 points. Russ was also selected to the All-County team along with Jim McKinley, .T ack Messner, and Gene Austin. The players who received letters for their championship efforts were: Jerry Garman, Bill Kyler, Ray Hall, Jim McKinley, Jack Tallmadge, Norman Briggs, Jack Messner, Russell Cutlip, Bill Hopkins. Robert Lewis, George Kissel, and Gene Austin. The letters were awarded to the boys at a football banquet held in their honor. Bob Feller, one of the Cleveland Indian's pitching stars, was the guest speaker. The Championship trophy was presented to the team by the county superintendent, V. B. Moffett. The seniors who have been on the team four years are Bill Kyler, Bill Hopkins, Jerry Gar- man, Gene Austin, and J ack Tallmadge. The remainder of the senior football boys have been on the team two or three years. These boys will be sorely missed in next year's athletic competition, but with the fine crop of xmderclassrnen, next year's team will be of the same championship caliber as the former teams have been. This year the Blue Jays had abetter team than the records show. With a few breaks the team could have had a 14-2 record instead of a 10-6 record. Overall there were 4 games in which the opposing team won by less than 5 points. These scant margins prove that Jeromesville had a well balanced, skilled team. In tournament play Jeromesville drew the bye and then played Ruggles-Troy. This game proved to be the most exciting contest of the season. Jeromesville led most of the way, but in the final minutes, the lead changed hands frequently. The final buzzer rang showing Ruggles -Troy on top, 59-58. The outlook for next year is very good, and we're hoping that the team will come out with the championship.
