The basketball season for 53-54 proved to be one of hope--hope for a champion team the next year, Since there were no seniors on the team, the younger boys on the squad received the advantage of experience in tough tournament and league play. As usual, the team started out slowly losing their first eight games. After Christmas, they piled up their win column by copping four out of their next five games. The finest game played proved to be their meet- ing with Killbuck. The Jerries whipped the highly favored team, then played one of their worst games against Glenmont three days later. The most exciting games were played against Sullivan. The first game ended in an argument over the sudden death which the referees did not call until after the second overtime. The second time Jeromes- ville met Sullivan, they squeaked out a narrow victory. A freak shot occurred when a pass thrown by a Jerry man was accidentally tipped into the basket by one of the Sullivan players. Jeromesville again drew a bye for the tournament this year. The Bluejays played well in tournament games but were jinxed by missed foul shots. Jim Mc Kinley and Larry Paullin were nominated to the second All- County team. J ack Messner received honorable mention. OPPONENTS J. H. S. Donelson, W, Hardy, R. Eagle. The J. V.'s finished their season with one of the best win-loss records achieved in several years. They rang up eight victories and fell under seven times, although the second team was allowed to play one quar- ter in almost every game, regardless of the score. This was done to give experience to the new boys, The scrappy little team started by winning the first two games while their elders fell by the wayside. They continued through the season on an even keel. With all the varsity returning and a well-trained junior varsity to back them up, the Bluejays should make a good showing next year, Good luck, .T.H.S.
