If we fulfill our purpose in publishing this book, you will find only the happy occasions recorded, and we hope that they will be the ones that you will remember in the years to come. Music, the theme of this year's annual, is carried out very cleverly on the division pages and various other ways. The Tiger, our school symbol, 'depicts the various school activities by his entertaining capers. The members of this staff sincerely thank the students of Jerome High School and others who have helped to make this book a success. --The Staff. 6JiCdfi0IZ OUR PARENTS have always willingly and generously given their time and assist- ance in order that we, the students of Jerome High School, might receive the fullest and richest benefits of Life. LIVE WIRE See all those heads buried in the school paper when the latest issue comes out? That's hovw popular the Jerome High Live Wire is when it makes its appearance about every two Weeks. Under the leadership of Kenneth Davis, who served as editor, and Brad Naegle and Beverly Lavens, who were assistant-editors, the school paper brings the current news to the students and keeps them posted on the latest doings, chatter, and events of interest around school. Miss Betty Johanson is the supervisor and she is the one responsible for keeping the staff 'hopping on their toes' getting their news assign- ments in. Special mention should also be given to the typists and mimeographers who are -the foundation of our school paper. This has been an outstanding year for the Live Wire and the staff has enjoyed working and bringing our own school paper to the students of J. H. The year started off with a hike to Twin Falls and was filled out by a well-rounded schedule of soccer, basketball and baseball. During the long Winter months, the basketball season was enlivened by several very ex- citing games with the teachers. This organization is one of the few Ways. in which a girl can earn a coveted J and is it Work! Approximately fifty-five boys turned out? among them were ten lettermen around Whom Coach Flenniken hopes to build a good team. The schedule this year will be a stiff one, and the boys are really going to strive to make the State Meet again. A ,surprisingly large number of prospects are in attendance this year. l948 BASEBALL SCHEDULE MARCH: MAY: 29-Shoshone-Here APRIL: 3-Buhl-Here 7-Twin Falls-There 5QTwin Falls-Here lg-gfoodigi-Here 14-15-District Meet-Buhl - 1er ere . TRACK As the Tiger goes to press. the track squad was trying to get in good shape for the various meets this spring. Coach Paul Taylor is ably directing the team this year. Ralph Adams, Richard Carbuhn, and Charles Williamson are good prospects and should help the team quite a bit. The squad, although smaller than usual this year, should take some choice places in the meets. Ralph Adams Went to state meet last year in the 440 yard dash along with Sterling Crothers, and Junior Neaves, who won the state mile race. Even though we don't have too many lettermen this year, the track stars will still be there fighting for Jerome High. l 948 TRACK SCHEDULE APRIL: MAY: 9-West End Meet at Bu.h1 8-District Meet at Twin Falls 16-Relays at Twin Falls 15-State Meet at Boise 24-Relays at Rupert 30-Big Seven at Rupert HOLD TI-IAT TIGER! 1. The Jerome Chapter was one of the first in Idaho to affiliate with the na tional organization and boasts a membership of fifty- eight members this year. The Jerome Chapter of the F.H.A. opened the year with a formal initiation on September 25 in the high school auditorium. Following the ceremony, a tea in honor of our adviser, Mrs. Lucy Dunn, was held in the Home Ec. rooms, with mothers of the members as guests. On November 8 Chapter officers, other delegates, and Mrs. Dunn represented Jerome at the Southwestern District Convention held at Buhl. Deloris Branch was chosen District President and Velma Lewis was selected as Secretary. Several members of the Chapter attended the State Convention at Boise in April. Jerome hopes to be represented at Kansas City in July at the National Convention. During the year F. H. A. cooperated closely with F. F. A. in giving exchange parties. The Chapter re- alized enough profit from their concession at the Jaycee Tournament to enable them to donate to the Red Cross and the Girl Scouts. They also made up a Christmas box. The officers who were chosen to lead the Chapter this past year included Betty Jo Hansen, President: Joanne Lierman, Vice Presidentg Idell Hymas, Secretaryg Deloris Branch, Treasurer, Meryl Chambers, Historiang and Patrycia Wilkes, Song Leader. SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS First Semester Beverly Lavens - Rae Pharris - - Shirley Gray - - Harold Greenawalt OFFICERS - President - Vice President - Secretary - - Treasurer - Second Semester - Doris Weeks Kenneth Hills Delores Stohler Richard Carbuhn FOUR YEARS IN A CASTLE Once upon a time along about the year 1944 a group of 132 little people were enchanted by a horrible spell. They were imprisoned in a huge frightening castle called High School. Their guards were ogres called teachers, and horrifying things called Seniors walked about through the halls. They were tortured for a week of initiation. After a while a Fresh-Soph party was given to make these lit- tle people feel at home in the castle. When they had learned more about it, the little folks timidly decided to show these people who had enchanted them what they could do, so they gave a Frosh assembly. It turned out so well that even they were surprised. Several were in the operetta, Purple Towers. Many en- tered the band and athletics. Then suddenly the enchantment was lifted for 3 months. When it came time to return to the castle, the little people found that the en- chantment had worn off a little. They weren't scared now-much! This time they did the torturing and really laid it on! They entered into everything, this energetic little group. Athletics, F. F. A., Live Wire, J Club, Tiger, F. H. A.. Glee Club, Mixed Chorus, Band, and Orchestra, all had large groups of these Sophs in their midst. One of the yell leaders, three of the Debate team and five of the play cast for Damsels in Distressnwere Sophs. This group was beginning to make itself felt in the castle. They were entertained, along with the Frosh, at a dance by the upperclassmen. The spell was gradually wearing off because this year seemed shorter than the last. The enchantment was almost gone. The group returned as Juniors who knew everything-almost. They continued to be very active, especially in sports. This group gave a Christmas Hop and had the High School Dance Band play for it. The operetta, Shreds and Patches, was almost a Junior production. Eight out of the nine leads were played by juniors. Then came the greatest event of that year, the Junior Prom! The theme was Dutch Flower Garden. The Juniors, and their adviser, Mr. Gooch, worked ha rd on it and made it the best one yet! To round out their third year, they gave a very good Junior Assembly. The last year the enchantment was all gone. They were the horrifying things called Seniors. They really knew it all this time. They were the most im- portant class in school Cthey thoughtj. Their Senior Ball had J ack and the Beanstalk as the theme. Glen Mauldin and Lois Jones were king and queen. They also sponsored an excellent Senior assembly. Then came graduation. With a feeling of shock, the people found that they were sad because the enchantment was gone. At first they had wished for their freedom, but now they almost wish- ed that it wasn't over. So they scatteredall over the world and lived happily ever after. Ralph Edwin Adams Ralph College Prep Course: Live Wire Z3 Jr. Red Cross Council 13 F.F.A. One afternoon last fall the Juniors were excused from school to pick spuds in order to finance the purchase of bleachers for the gymnasium. In February the class sponsored a Leap Year Dance. The girls asked the boys and escorted them t.o the scene of the Ball -baled hay served as very comfortable chairs.. A hilarious time was had by the girls, but one never knows how a boy feels when he receives a vegetable corsage and is. drug to a dance by a very persistent young lady. Moonlight and Roses served as the theme for the Annual Junior Prom on April 1. With a theme like that, we all stop and wonder-and, yes, dream of what we can do next year when we are Seniors. Hoping that all of our class of one hundred and forty-three passed their citi- zenship tests, we will proceed to the second semester Where We bade farewell to our fine officers of the first semester and said, Hi I to the unknowing souls who were very brave to accept. We Were represented in Glee Club, Pep Club, J Club and many more, also boy's athletics such as football, basketball, and baseball. During the first Week of March the Jr. Varsity team played in the Tournament at Rupert, placing third. Due to an unfortunate accident, fortunate for us, we had but one day of initiation to endure. We elected our class officers without much trouble. A few of our number tried to settle down and study, but most of us were interested in sports and dances. At the beginning of the second semester new officers wlere elected and they pleaded with everyone to pay his dues. We were well represented in Glee Club, Mixed Chorus, Band, and Athletics.
