QONEE COMES TO JENNINGQ! From the combined imaginations of a dozen staff members and the drawing talent of our art editor came Mr. Sonee, a fat little fella from a far off planet named Oche-NeJ. We wanted a fresh view of things, a view of our school through the thoughts of a friendly little alien. Just to make sure that he knew what was going on, we developed two typical Jennings students, Sue and Steve, who were to be his special friends. Cn stage with the Seniors, sculpting with the art students, sitting on top of the world, flashing across the gym to help our team make a basket Sonee became far more than a drawing on paper. Our story of this chubby pint-sized character begins on the morning of September 5, 1962, not an ordinary morning for Jennings. An air of expectancy hangs over everything. Some- thing very strange is taking place at the high school, where teachers and staff have been preparing for this day . . . the opening of another year. f 2- ? i'.iC y lillfffyil yr if tl ' ff il . li it ii e I il it ,Q ,I Q, ,H f - .ggfiww f - leg Cutting across the track on their way to school, Sue and Steve witness something that is going to make this year really different for them too. A strange rounded object is tumbling out of the sky, plummeting earth- ward and screeching to a stop on the cinders. Ooh, what a rough landing such a gritty, crude landing strip! Whew wonder where in the galaxy I am? Guess this serves me right for messing around on my way home . . . I can just see the Chief now . . . if he were here . . . 'Fell of telstar, tumbled down a beam . . . how solar silly can you get, SoneeP' Look Sue, what is that? Holy cow! right in the middle of our track! What could it be?!', What do you mean 'what could it be?' It's me, Sonee from the planet Oehe-Nef I that is . . . where am I . . . and what is this place and these odd brown shapes? This is Jennings, and those are our school build- ings, You see . . .
