From the combined imaginations of a dozen staff members and the drawing talent of our art editor came Mr. Sonee, a fat little fella from a far off planet named Oche-NeJ. We wanted a fresh view of things, a view of our school through the thoughts of a friendly little alien. Just to make sure that he knew what was going on, we developed two typical Jennings students, Sue and Steve, who were to be his special friends. Cn stage with the Seniors, sculpting with the art students, sitting on top of the world, flashing across the gym to help our team make a basket Sonee became far more than a drawing on paper. Our story of this chubby pint-sized character begins on the morning of September 5, 1962, not an ordinary morning for Jennings. An air of expectancy hangs over everything. Some- thing very strange is taking place at the high school, where teachers and staff have been preparing for this day . . . the opening of another year. f 2- ? i'.iC y lillfffyil yr if tl ' ff il . li it ii e I il it ,Q ,I Q, ,H f - .ggfiww f - leg Cutting across the track on their way to school, Sue and Steve witness something that is going to make this year really different for them too. A strange rounded object is tumbling out of the sky, plummeting earth- ward and screeching to a stop on the cinders. Ooh, what a rough landing such a gritty, crude landing strip! Whew wonder where in the galaxy I am? Guess this serves me right for messing around on my way home . . . I can just see the Chief now . . . if he were here . . . 'Fell of telstar, tumbled down a beam . . . how solar silly can you get, SoneeP' Look Sue, what is that? Holy cow! right in the middle of our track! What could it be?!', What do you mean 'what could it be?' It's me, Sonee from the planet Oehe-Nef I that is . . . where am I . . . and what is this place and these odd brown shapes? Why is everyone hurrying just to sit in that huge heaven of seats again? Hey! I hear music. Ug! That trumpet call. Who was that? No one on that hump in the floor has a trumpet. Where in the universe - uh - I mean - uh - on earth did they come from? They werenJt there the first time I got pushed in here. A new chief is speaking this time. So you're john Maier. Glad to know you, john Maier. I can't look!,' Oh my heavens! That rude boy is laughing at his teacher. Oh-h-h-h-h! They,re all laughing. How rude! That poor, poor man. Singing and dancing and an art exhibit too, but the masterpieces are so wobbly! PLEASE! Be careful. Watch out, young fella, when you jump out hre exits. Besides, you all are quite solar-silly to sing while your home is burning like a meteor. ta,M 4 EVERYTHING GOES Oh! I forgot. He . . . He ean't even hear signals. What now! Those lunarties are playing baseball without a ball. Imagine no shriveled, shrunken planet-sphere. Singing in burning buildings, baseball without a ball, oscillating Indians, scary janitoros, and sad little umpires. What is this any-sphere? Listen! Listen! Another Openin, of Another. Oshhhh. They disintegrated. But I know I remember another openin, of another another SHOW. That's it. Itls a SHOW. Come to think of it. Maybe I'll just zoom along and follow these earth-people, show-people to fejerson Barracks and Bayless so I can see it again -this . . . this show. MR. JOHN E. I get it . , . it's another .. . what was it? . . . Oh yes, another SHOW. So this is why you fellas have been bothering me with your prancing around on this big hump every single night for the last five weeks. This is why you have strained your voice boxes, made paper walls, and walked around in those stretched dresses. Well here we go again. Everything goes again. Hey! Be careful! You'll hurt that ragfella by throwing him on the floor like that. Grandpa, you're perfectly right. Don't you move if you don't want to. You should be the head of this family. That Mr. Smith is a mean, mean, man doing his family that way. Why, he deserves those solar-silly daughters! Agnes, you should be ashamed. A little girl drink- ing cosmic cocktails. And, Tootie biting Mr. Dodge. You de- serve to be spanked and in front of all those people too. He did deserve it though. That bag of water does him justice. Hurray for Tootie!! Ahhh curtain time.
