Among these can be found symbols of academics and athletics, joy and sadness, teachers and students, work and play, love and sorrow. [ Dawning m J Shadows Saw Many Varied Moods and Activities 5 8 Mr. Harelson Showed Outstanding Leadership A. Mr. LaPoint reported the progress of the new student teachers at J.H.S. to Mr. Harelson. B. Mrs. Carter and Mr. Harelson gave the Sophomore class the procedure for voting for class favorites. C. Mr. Harelson read the new dress and grooming codes to the Junior class. D. Mr. Harelson arrived at school early to begin his day's work. T 10 Assistant Principals Headed Administrative Departments A. Mr. Delacroix made many telephone calls to check on absent students. B. Mr. Ward and Mr. Delacroix helped to enforce school regulations. C. Mr. Ward completed many items of paperwork throughout the year. n A. Mrs. Thibodeaux brought the guidance office files up-to-date with the help of Linda Pentecost. B. Mr. Craig gave students instructions on voting for class favorites. C. Mrs. Gaudet, Mr. Craig, and Mrs. Thibodeaux frequently found it necessary to combine their work efforts. D. Mrs. Gaudet had many duties outside of school hours, such as selling tickets at football games. Office Staff Aided Administration in Many Ways A. Home Economics II, IV Mrs. Belair assisted Susan Daigle and Karen Young in setting the table for a teachers' party. MR. M. E. BLANCHARD B.S. - L.S.U. Agriculture I, II, III, IV Mr. Blanchard and Thomas Dennis viewed a film with their freshman agriculture class. MRS. M. E. BLANCHARD B. CT A. Matt Hargioder, a new member on the lineup , was a much welcomed addition to the Bulldogs. B. The Bulldogs displayed a great effort of teamwork as Charles Wilridge - 44, Freddie Fields - 24, and Haley Dartez - 10 attempted to disrupt an opponent's concentration and to block his shot. C. When time came to honor the 1973 boys' basketball team, the cheerleaders, at a special pep rally, awarded each player a cupcake as a token of appreciation. Team members included Fred die Fields, Haley Dartez, James Guinn, Elridge Dartez, Glenn Trahan, Larry Guidry, Howard Lee, and Charles Wilridge. Hard Won Victories Toughened the Bulldogs A. Freddie Fields’ aim and concentration were not disturbed by his opponents' efforts as he prepared to make a goal for the Dogs. B. Freddie Fields' quickness and agility on the basketball court paid off for the Bulldogs. C. Howard Lee - 33, put forth a great effort as he grabbed for the rebound. Haley Dartez -11, also assisted in the rebound while Larry Guidry - 15, and Mike Savoy - 21, stood ready to become part of the action. 119 Speed and Skill Made a Winning Combination A ▲ A. Larry Guidry, the team’s little hustler, was always available when a problem arose on the court. B. When Matt Hargroder managed to get into the open, he would take his time and go for two. C. Big John Rudd met his match when he came up against Jennings' Charles Wilridge, as Wil-ridge blocked one of Rudd’s shots. D. One of Haley Dartez's quick and sudden moves enabled him to catch his opponent off guard, while he drove toward the goal. 120 A. The great effort by Larry Guidry paid off as he drove in and over his opponent to try for two points. B. Haley Dartez, one of the more experienced members of the team, helped lead the Dogs to a successful year. C. Hulin Theriot and Rick Lawless loaded the bus with basketball equipment for one of the many out-of-town games. NOT SHOWN: Senior basketball manager Robert Broussard. D. Leroy Frank, David Donnell, Robin Bearden, and Michael Norris displayed their spirit by making a poster to encourage the team on to victory. C. The pep rally honoring the Sweet Sixteen - bound Bulldettes highlighted the day of their departure for Alexandria. A t .' 123 Work, Sweat, Pride A. Kathy Leonard, a sure -shooting Sophomore, saved many games with her quickness and agility. B. Julie Garbarino and Sherrill Landry surrounded an East Beauregard Trojanette, forcing her to surrender the ball. C. Andra Hine proved to be a valuable asset to both the varsity and junior varsity teams. A A CT 124 Equaled a Successful Team A. Marilyn Smith, making a clean break, shot for an easy two points in the Sweet Sixteen Tournament. B. Managers Kathy Hewitt and Gerry Dugas discussed the possibilities of the girls taking state. C. Julie Garbarino, Marilyn Smith, Debbie Leger, Sherrill Landry, and Marlene Istre tensely awaited the start of the quarter-final game. D. The victorious Bulldettes were wildly congratulated by their numerous fans as they paved their way to Sweet Sixteen. BA DT 125 Girls' Basketball 1972-73: A. Debbie Leger soared above Tioga defenders in an effort to add to the Bulldettes' score. B. Hard work and long practice increased Marlene Istre’s and Julie Garbarino's agility in basketball . C. Andra Hine leaped for the tip-off as Marlene Istre readied herself to receive the ball. D. Kathy Leonard and Debbie Leger excitedly embraced after another Bulldette victory. E. Marilyn Smith made many points for the Bulldettes from the foul line, as Debbie Leger and Sherrill Landry waited for play to resume. C Y E Y 126 Long Practices, Hard Work, Frustration, A. Sherrill Landry typified the determination which carried the Bulldettes through a successful season. B. To the dismay of Winnsboro foes, Marlene Istre added two points to the Bulldettes' score. Pivoting for a break, Marlene Istre searched the court to find Julie Garbarino open for a pass. Fatigue, Emotions, Leadership, 128 Excitement, Sportsmanship, and Victory! A. Julie Garbarino scrambled after a stray ball in the Mt. Carmel game. B. The J. H. S. student body honored the Sweet Sixteen-bound Bulldettes with a pep rally. C. Marilyn Smith prepared to make another of her fantastic shots. D. Sherrill Landry tossed in another two points from the outside. E. Kathy Leonard and Jackie Waltrip anxiously awaited the rebound in an action-packed junior varsity game. 129 Bulldog Trackmen Looked 130 Forward to a New Season A. Bobby Reddell prepared to throw the discus. B. Stuart Coco demonstrated his stance in the blocks. 131 Long, Hard Practice Was A. Bobby Reddell constantly practiced throwing the discus. B. Clarke Buch vaulted over the crossbar many times each day during practice. 132 A Necessity for Track A. Tim Cassidy watched his discus as it passed his former best-throw mark. B. Tommy Harelson strived to improve his form with the javelin. 133 Bulldogs Finished the Season The 1973 track season ended with two Bulldogs participating in the state track meet held in Baton Rouge. The Growl staff regrets that pictures were not available of Rickey Moore, who entered the pole vault event, and Charles Wilridge, who competed in the 330 intermediate hurdles. 134 A. Gordon Fruge broke the string as his opponent faltered. B. Raymond McDowell finished a close race. Fourth in Their District A. Rickey Tauzin streaked to another first place finish. B. Ronald Barker placed first in the dead heat of the 330 intermediate hurdles. 135 The 1973 Jenning High Girls' Track Went to State Because the running of a track meet requires much help, Judge John Hebert and Georgeanna Knight offered their assistance whenever possible. Members of the 1973 girls' track were as follows: SEATED: Pam Williams, manager; Kathy Medus, Becky Bergeaux, Donna Dronet, Stephanie LaBowe, Sarah Palfrey, Angie Hebert, Cindy Coco. Coach Fain gave Angie Hebert some assistance with her equipment before leaving for the state track meet. B. Kim Babineaux, Stephanie LaBowe, and Andra Hine checked to see that they had all their equipment before leaving for a track meet. 137 Participating in the State Track A. The girls who went to the state track meet were Stephanie LaBowe, Julie Garbarino, Kathy Hewitt; manager, Angie Hebert, Gwen Evans, and Sarah Palfrey. Coach and Mrs. Fain accompanied the girls. C Y 139 J.H.S. Tennis Team Sought A. Aided by Dr. Louis Shirley, a well-known tennis enthusiast, the new tennis instructor Coach Wayne Cespiva strove to build a strong team of new members. B. Girls’ team member Suzonne Delacroix practiced hard to perfect the many skills needed in tennis. C. Peter Marcantel displayed excellent form as he prepared to serve against his opponent. MO to Rebuild Itself A. The team's newest member was Jollene Shirley, although she was a very experienced tennis player. B. Glenn Trahan returned a well-placed serve in one of his matches. C. Suzonne Delacroix, whose style gave evidence of her abilities , was a welcomed addition to J.H.S. tennis team. 141 The 1973 Golf Team A. James Dupre hopefully watched as his putt neared its target. B. Rob Landry unsheathed his iron as he prepared to tee-off on a par-3 hole. C. Brent Stolzle kept his arms straight as he started into his backswing. D. Pat Miller and Angela Herbert waited patiently while Robin Bearden interviewed Marlene Istre, the last of the great warriors. B. Georgeanna Knight wondered how long Kathryn Medus could balance Mari Hoag on her shoulders. C. The 1973 school year would not have been the same without the Senior cheerleaders Pat Miller and Marlene Istre. Pat, head, and Marlene were our Senior cheerleaders. Pep Rallies Were the Key A ▲ C Y A. Pat Miller, Alexa Smith, and Robin Bearden showed how high their spirits were over the coming basketball game. B. Marlene Istre, Alexa Smith, and Georgeanna Knight practiced diligently to improve their cheers. C. Georgeanna Knight explained to Angela Herbert, Pat Miller, and Kathryn Medus how to achieve a Bulldog victory. One of the most humorous skits put on by the cheerleaders at a pep rally consisted of the eight cheerleaders wearing hand-painted paper bags on their heads and dancing to a snappy little tune played by the band. 155 Spirit for the Bulldogs A. Mr. Roberts and Glenn Carter discussed the living accomodations at the hotel when the band arrived in Panama City, Florida. B. Several bandsmen gathered outside while waiting to receive their room assignments. 165 Chorus Held Their Audiences A. Through the long hours of directing by Mr. Ricard, the chorus proudly took honors at district and state festivals. A new addition was an all-girls chorus which received Sweepstakes” at district and state festivals. B. An annual attraction, the Christmas concert, delighted the audience and brought a touch of yuletide cheer. 166 Spellbound During Performances 167 Where's Charley? Provided Comedy and Laughter A. Monte Briggs evidently enjoyed the long hours of practice with Celia Black and Robin Bearden. B. Kim Rea made a last minute check of Tommy Harelson's make-up. C.
