Speech and Dramatics MRS. L. H. RICHARD, B.A. Speech I Speech II Today, more than ever before, man needs the ability to communicate with his fellow man. The Jennings High School speech department endeavors to develop and refine this ability. Many skills are taught: prepared speaking, extemporaneous speaking, interpretive reading, choral reading, dramatic skills (play production, acting, and so forth) and others. The first period Speech II class practices a one act play to be given before the student body. Mrs. Richard’s fourth period Speech I class puts on a discussion panel. Mrs. Richard conducts tryouts for one of the annual plays. 19

World Geography A new course, Communism vs. Americanism, has been correlated with the American history course at Jennings High School. (Above) Students are viewing a film strip 'Communism on the Map which tells of the subversive effects of communist influence throughout the world. Mr. Benedict lectures to his civics class on the agencies of justice and law in the United States. Mr. Hanks explores with his world geography class the wonders of the globe and our world. 18

Above, Mrs. Richard and Mr. Ricard are collaborating on the Spring Production. The Jennings High School Band, under the direction of Mr. Sarra-det, performs at football games, town parades, and such out-of-town events as L.S. U. Band Day. At right, Mr. Ricard directs the Jennings High School eighth grade chorus. During each school day he also directs the high school mixed chorus, the high school men's chorus, and the high school women's chorus. 20
