Morgan. 3rd Row-F. Min- cek, I. Gowarty. 12 I. B. High School finished their 1955-56 football season with three wins and six losses. The season be- gan dark for us, we lost the first three games fo Forbes, Cone. Twp., and Cone. Boro. The 'cBears,' fought hard under Coach Edward Szewczyk and came back to win against Penns Man- or in the next game. The three fol- lowing games were lost to Shade, Bedford, and Somerset. The season was ended by defeating Berlin and Meyersdale. Helping the Coach in his many duties were Louis Pike and Stanley Krupnick, assistant coaches. Ioe Bertolini acted as captain for this yearps team and Iim Gowarty repre- sented our school as an alternate on the all-county team. John Griffith, John Mattie, and Harry Jacobs gave their services as managers. Graduat- ing from the team are Joe Bertolini, Dave Morgan, Jim Gowarty, Iohn Ur- ban, Frank Mincek, and Doug Spei- gle.

,. T The 1955-56 Bear cage team proved to be ambitious and courageous. Although the squad was unpredictable at many times and lost all but one of their games, they displayed a poised, well balanced, sharp shooting unit. The Bears were exciting even in defeat, several of their games were lost by a few points. Starting out on the wrong foot, they lost the first fifteen games. This did not dampen their fighting spirit. In defeat they dis- played good sportsmanship and always came back at the next team fighting hard. With great spirit and high hopes they came through and won against Shade Twp. in a great show of basketball ability. There were many other games where it was close and the opposing team had to fight hard to beat the Bears. It was hard going this season for the team but the future looks bright. Norman Peters, the team's able captain, and Paul Kossey are the only players who will be lost by graduation. With one junior and the rest sophomores and freshmen, the team will not be inexperienced in Varsity players. Mr. Stanly Krupnik was the hard working coach of this yearis team and helping him was Mr. Ioseph De- Blase, assistant coach. Taking care of the equipment were Iohn Griffith, Ed Mash, Elmer Beeman, and Rob- ert Benedict. These boys deserve a lot of credit for their work as managers. Preparing for their roles as the basketball players of the future ears at B. I. were the junior varsity play- ers coached, by Mr. De Blase.
