The plan advanced from the blue- print stage to a field of three acres, enclosed by twenty-one hundred feet of wire, with a seating capacity of fifteen hundred. Seventy- two lights of fifteen hundred watt enable fans to enjoy football at night. The commit- tee secured the ground for the field, provided the fence and part of the lights. The Joint School Board supplied bleachers, built the ticket office, seeded the field, erected the fence, and purchased the remainder of the lights. With completion of plans, the field will also accommodate the additional sports of baseball and track. Mr. Joseph J. Collins, Contractor Mr. Edward W. Joint High School, composed of seven members from Jenner Township, five members from Bos- well Borough, and five members from Jen- nerstown Borough, meets monthly in our school library. Here are discussed the prob- lems of the school's administration. The duties of the School Board are manifold. They are responsible for the set- ting up and approving of our full educational program, employing and fixing the wages of all our teachers and other employees, supplying transportation to and from school for our township classmates, and providing books, supplies, and all other equipment. They are now actively engaged in bringing plans for a sizeable addition to our high school to realization. We feel grateful to these men and women for their efforts in promoting our education. PREPARE TO TAKE OVER From the time the first bell rang to begin the new school year, the Junior class has been carrying the ball with the aid of their junior advisors, Miss Lundquest and Mrs. Bittner. As Juniors, our class is represented on the football field and on the basketball court. The band would find it hard going with- out the wind reserves of its Junior members, and Mrs. Thomas can testify to the lung power of our membership in her chorus. The class has been working together as a unit to make a success of their ventures which have been: a Sadie Hawkins Dance complete with shmoos and life-size likenesses of Daisy Mae, Lil' Abner, and Mammy and Pappy Yokumg a Heart Hop in the traditional red and whiteg and the Easter Dance which provided entertainment for all. Then came the Junior Play-our first. How pleased we were to entertain our classmates. After all, not every class has a class play like ours! The cast knew they had succeeded when they heard the applause of the audience and acclaim of their fellow Juniors. On Class Day we found ourselves almost Seniors-this was the most important day of our Junior year and how proud we were. Well, gang, we'l1 see you all next year in the Senior rooms! um'ot.4 . . . Under the sponsorship of Mr. Krupnik these biology members peered into micro- scopes, developed projects, and prepared slides in an effort to perfect their knowledge of plant life and learn about the many dif- ferent kinds of insects. These meetings held in the Science room studying the intricacies of bacteria aroused even the less ambitious to action. Weather permitting, these boys and girls joined in various field trips ob- serving insects and plant life which proved invaluable to them in their work for the remainder of the year. 7-utute qatmeta . . . 1'l'l'8ll11llf l lvl'-l'1'CS Swrclary Tri usurvr Rf'jllll'f1'I' Scnfinrl f '11 1111111 in A ll L'lS1ll' OFFICE RS JosaPII Bocsv JAY STANroN LVTIIER SPI-JICHER HWARREN BI-JENER . BUILDS FOR CHARACTER With an 2ll'l'2lY of pigtails, coats of make-up, pert curt- sies to the senior members, six new members were informal- ly ushered into the Tri-Ili-Y-the first club event of the season. We were then ready to begin another eventful year. Our annual Halloween Dance was a huge success amid the colorful decorations of grinning jack o'lanterns and ghosts. Following this, we earnestly went to work collecting toys, books, games and clothing for shipment over-seas. After hearing Anjean Horner's financial report we knew our treasury needed a build-up so a few money- making campaigns were set in progress, such as serving a noon luncheon to the student body and selling coffee and hot dogs at football games. Not only does it add color to school activities, but also provides music at many other events. In addition to the members themselves it has an attractive corps of drum majorettes, twirling behind the drum major. That sprightly music and precision marching just did not come while the students sat around during the fourth period each day. Much time and eifort was put forth on the part of the director, Mr. Kistler. Although music at football games was the band's specialty, after the grid season closed Mr. Kistler pulled out the more serious music and started to shape the group into a fine concert band for the spring concert in May. Nine members of the band displayed their talents with that of other musicians in the All-County Band. Also the three members chosen to represent J. B. J. Every student gained some valuable dance pointers and at the same time added a great deal of enjoyment, thanks to their instructor, Mr. Chervenak. The club uses the library for their meetings each week. The two social events of the year con- stituted a joint skating party with the home- ec girls and a school dance. In November after the Senior pictures were taken, these probies had become an industrious group of staff workers, planning pictures for the Annual and busily working on Senior write-ups. How well they will remember the excitement caused by the arrival of the Senior pictures from Mr. Kudasick. One could nearly hear the mumble-jumble which denoted deep concentration as the staff wracked its collective brain. Next came the faculty and club write-ups. Later features and lead lines were incorporated. The steady pushing of pencils as the book took form, the tapping of typewriters under skillful fingers, and the clicking of cameras denoted progress in production. Mrs. Bittner could be seen scheduling picturesg Mr. LaVigne dis- cussing highly important financial mattersg and Mr. Donald Young helping to supervise the general outline of the book. During this time the business staff began the seemingly endless task of scouring the countryside for advertisers. Our spirit of friendly cooperation helped us to prepare this 1950 REX COLLIUM. Extra-hard workers are the Eagle staff members, bringing us all that's new and interesting around and about us, and striving always to satisfy the varied interests of their subscribers. Not only do they put out seven issues a term, but they also finance the paper by selling subscriptions and ads, conducting a magazine sales campaign, and offering fea- ture-length movies to the student body. Eagle days are red letter days at J. B. J. thanks to the leadership of the Editor, Lu Ann Shank, and the work of her faithful staff, and to the interested and capable spon- sorship of Miss Soisson. Ghost Wanted.--Full-time healthful work, haunt- ing lovely island home. Apply Ramshead Rock. Hugo Bromley, a young man out of a job, and Jeffrey Hall, his associate, answer the advertisement displayed above. Forthwith, they become acquainted with Ginger and Gale Stormgay, the attractive grand- daughters of Granny Kate, owner of the old house on Ramshead Rock. The ad was Ginger's idea. She wanted to cure Granny Kate of voodooism and the companion- ship of Professor de Vallan and his strange assistant, Madame Zolga. The Professor claims to be able to commune with one Simon Gore, a drowned fisherman, who once lived on the island. The four young people plan for Hugo to imper- sonate Simon Gore, and prove the Professor and Madame Zolga as fakers. Before they can put their plan to work, however, another monster appears. Jeffrey discovers a secret panel connecting with Hatcher, the hired man's, room. This discovery leads to the climax of the mystery. Hatcher is proven to be the head of a foreign spy-ring operating on the island. Hugo and Jeffrey decide the ghost business is not so bad if it can introduce them to such charming girls as Ginger and Gale. These are typical examples of some of the many expressions that could be heard from the members of the Hobby Club when demonstrating some of their prize pieces of workmanship. This organiza- tion of 20 eager boys from the Junior High School, under the direction of Mrs. Felix, have an interest in the construction of model airplanes, ships, and boats. They take special pride in this interesting hobby, because while enjoying exceptionally good fun, they pro- duce a large number of swift-moving models. KNITTING CLUB . . . Oh gee, it looks though I made an- other mistake! Guess Iill have to rip it out and start over. These are some of the re- marks that can be heard in Mrs. Thomas's home room during club period. But despite their trials and tribulations, some very use- ful and beautiful knitted products are turned out by the end of the year through much effort and determination. With little or no knowledge of knitting when entering the club, most of the members are able to knit mittens or socks by the end of the term. Do you prefer plain mittens or fancy ones? This game went into two extra periods, the final score being 50-48 in favor of Conemaugh Twp. In the following ten games, Boswell won seven of them. The Bears took games from Somerset Twp., Meversdale, Shade, Dale, Stonyereek, Everett and Berlin. The Berlin game was our first league victory--the mountaineers were riding an eleven game winning streak when they were halted by the Bears, with a score of 50-45. In spite of this and a double loss to Conemaugh Township 21-17 and 22-13, they had a successful season with 6 wins and 4 losses. All four of their losses came from top notch opponents. The Bears sport double wins over Bedford 43-9, CForfeitJ 66-05 Windber 23-16, 24-14, and Jeannette 24-12, 37-7. Boswell loses four good lettermen this year in Richard Bertolini, Donald Grove, James Stedina and George Winovich. Together they piled up 114 of the Bears' 250 points. There are prospects for an even better season next year with 9 lettermen returning. Two of the out- standing wrestlers that will be back to lead the team are Fred Thomas and Bob Vish.
