IT’S UP TO THE BOARD The Chatham County Board ot Public Education, lead by superintendent Syl- vester Raines, planned the budget care- fully in order to assure the school system of a smoothly run 1980-81 term. The Board was led by President Saxon P. Bar- geron, Vice-President Esther F. Garrison, and Vice-President Protem Dr. Robert H. Moreland, Jr. Each district was represented efficient- ly by Board members Dr. Martha Fay, Captain Robert Funk, Donald Lowe III, Dr. Isaiah Mclver, Sr., and Mrs. Betty McClendon. In the infirmary Mrs. B. Verrett spent another year taking care of the ill or wounded. She helped with personal prob- lems as well as physical problems. Her main duty was to assure the best emer- gency care for ill or injured students and to notify parents if necessary. She also kept a daily log of those students who entered and left the infirmary. Under the supervision of Mrs. Verrett, hearing and vision tests were adminis- tered to 10th grade students and to those recommended by the counselor. KEEP ON CLEANING Mr. Bynes completed his second year as HVJ’s head custodian last year. His main duties were keeping the grounds and school clean and making sure that the classrooms were in satisfactory con- dition. Helping Mr. Bynes were two full- time maids, Ms. Bryant and Ms. Washing- ton. In addition, a group of part-time maids sent by the Board of Education came in daily to help keep HVJ in good order. 26 MAINTENANCE
