STUDENT GUIDES The counselors this past year at HVJ were essential to the student body. They all advised students on requirements for graduation and kept them up-to-date on the credits they had already earned. Mr. Fields was the counselor for the 9th grade; Mrs. Hollowell the 10th and 11th grades; Mrs. Preetorious for the 12th grade. Mrs. Patton served as secretary in the counselors’ office. In addition to her secretarial duties, she handled registra- tion for the PSAT and the SAT. UPPER LEFT: Mrs. Preetorious prepares our sen- iors for their future. LEFT: Mrs. Hollowell is willing to help. UPPER RIGHT: Mr. Fields gets the freshmen off to a good start ABOVE: Mrs. Patton keeps the counselors' office running. COUNSELORS 23

WORKING HARD The secretaries of HVJ worked hard to fulfill their duty of keeping the school run- ning in an orderly fashion. Mrs. Jane Mell, personal secretary to the principal, super- vised business in the main office. Mrs. Brenda Sinclair, also in the main office, handled the financial matters of the school. Mrs. Terri Mehlhorn served as at- tendance officer. She handled students’ signing into school late and kept track of late buses. 22 SECRETARIES

In the infirmary Mrs. B. Verrett spent another year taking care of the ill or wounded. She helped with personal prob- lems as well as physical problems. Her main duty was to assure the best emer- gency care for ill or injured students and to notify parents if necessary. She also kept a daily log of those students who entered and left the infirmary. Under the supervision of Mrs. Verrett, hearing and vision tests were adminis- tered to 10th grade students and to those recommended by the counselor. She also helped to coordinate a blood pressure drive for seniors and faculty. HOW DO YOU FEEL? ABOVE: Helping hands. LEFT: A word to the wise! UPPER: Do you really feel that bad? 24 INFIRMARY
