After an absence of nineteen years, Mr. John D. Stewart returned last year to Jen- kins High School as principal. While a stu- dent at Jenkins, he was a baseball letter- man. After graduating from HVJ Mr. Stewart continued his education at Arm- strong State College and Georgia South- ern College where he received his BS de- gree in education. Mr. Stewart served as a teacher at both Shuman Middle School and Savannah Country Day School before joining the military. After finishing his term in the Army, he came back to Savannah and was on staff at Bartlett Middle School and Savannah High School. For three years Mr. Stewart was principal at Myers Middle School. As principal of HVJ, Mr. Stewart initiat- ed several changes that benefited the en- tire student body. His main goal was for the students to learn in an atmosphere that was both educational and enjoyable. 18 PRINCIPAL ABOVE: Conferences occupy a good deal of Mr Stewart’s time.
