CREATIVE HANDS AT WORK The art classes this past year were in a place where students could go to release the tensions of everyday living. Students were also able to relax and put their imaginations to work. Many dreams became realities, and numerous projects were successful. During the fall quarter Mrs. Susan Starr, artist in residence, taught the art of weaving to Mrs. Friedenberg's classes. In addition to weaving, students experimented with batik, silk screen, tye-dye, mosaic and scrap art. VI ralQnda f art tnfcr UPPER: The art of weaving. ...AND THE BEAT GOES ON The Music Department at Jenkins was the place to go when feeling down. Everywhere there was a cheerful note and the sound of a comforting melody. Mr. Benjamin Sinkus provided a basis to those students who wanted to develop technique and style in playing band instruments. This included playing at many school functions. Mr. Robert Fennell led the chorus classes to near perfection. The students developed talents and skills that could be useful throughout a lifetime. MINDS AT WORK Students in social science classes this past year explored the way people interact with one another. There were many different subjects offered by these departments: American Political Behavior, Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Psychology, Urban Studies, and even the Future. By means of lecture and class discussion, Mrs. Carletha Gadson, Mrs. Shirley Williams, and Mrs. Gussie Jenkins helped students to understand themselves better. They also helped students to improve their human relationships and to understand the problems of society. SOCIAL SCIENCE 29
