AN APPLE A DAY Mrs. B. Verrett was the nurse at Jenkins for the 1978-1979 school year. She enjoyed working with the young people and helping them with their personal problems. The main responsibility of Mrs. Verrett was to plan the best procedure for emergency care of sicknesses and accidents occurring in school. She was in charge of notifying parents and making arrangements for students in case of sudden illness or injury. A daily log was kept on all students coming into the infirmary and students leaving school early. Mrs. Verrett was also in charge of screening procedures for hearing and vision tests. ENTHUSIASM, CARE AND UNDERSTANDING The counselors devoted their time to guiding students toward a successful life after graduation. They assisted students in choosing useful classes that were helpful at HVJ and would be in college and in the future. They also assisted students in solving their problems. To help students in choosing their future vocations, they sponsored Rotary Career Day in November. On that day outstanding community people talked to students about their different professions. Mr. Fields was counselor for the ninth grade, Mrs. Hollowell for the tenth and eleventh grades, and Mrs. Preetorious for the twelfth grade. Mrs. Patton was the always efficient and smiling secretary. EXTREME UPPER: Always smiling, Mrs. Preetorious helped assure our seniors of graduation. ABOVE: Mrs. Patton proved again to be invaluable to Jenkins. NUNNALLY AND CO. Every morning one group of people arrived at school before anyone else. Every afternoon this same group was the last to leave. These people kept our school and grounds clean and did other general maintenance work. They were the custodians and the maids. While the maids were cleaning the windows in the loggia and sweeping the halls, the custodians were seen fixing broken windows or replacing light bulbs. Without this work the physical appearance of our school would have been less than desirable. Mr. Herman Nunnally, head custodian, and his company did a good job of keeping our school in respectable condition. 18 MAINTENANCE
