BEHIND THE SCENES Before each official day began, the secretaries and the school treasurer were preparing for the oncoming day. Mrs. Jane Mell was secretary to Mr. Crosby and general office manager. Mrs. Terrie Mehlhorn was census and transcripts coordinator. Mrs. Brenda Sinclair, who was new to the school last year, was assistant treasurer, assistant to the assistant principals and chief clerical aide to data processing. Mr. John Herrington was our school treasurer, and he handled all the financial problems. This highly trained office staff proved not only to the faculty but also to the students that they cared for everyone and everything centered on Jenkins High School. EXTREME UPPER LEFT: Mr. Herrington continues to be a much demanded treasurer. UPPER LEFT: Mrs. Mehlhorn seems to be always buried in student transcripts. LEFT: Mrs. Mell always has a cheerful smile. ABOVE: Mrs. Sinclair, the newest of the office staff, fits in well with the HVJ world. ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE STAFF 15

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS Assisting Mr. Crosby with discipline and general administration were four important people: Mr. James Spear, Mr. James Jackson, Mr. Earl Berksteiner and Mrs. Kathy O'Neill. Mr. Spear was in charge of the discipline of ninth and eleventh grade students, activities of clubs, fund raising projects, lunchroom patrol and the direction of athletics. Mr. Jackson spent busy days in charge of school busses, distribution of books, field trip arrangements, and after school detention. Mr. Berksteiner dealt mainly with discipline of tenth and twelfth graders, but he enjoyed participating in school activities and working directly with the students. Mrs. Kathy O'Neill worked closely with scheduling, collecting data for the computer, and helping teachers with clerical duties. HVJ would have been dt a loss without the help of these four to keep our school running smoothly. EXTREME UPPER RIGHT: Why did you miss detention for three days? ABOVE RIGHT: get excuses for everything. ABOVE: Coach Spear's favorite pastime. RIGHT: Mrs. O'Neill checks her busy schedule. 14 ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF

ENTHUSIASM, CARE AND UNDERSTANDING The counselors devoted their time to guiding students toward a successful life after graduation. They assisted students in choosing useful classes that were helpful at HVJ and would be in college and in the future. They also assisted students in solving their problems. To help students in choosing their future vocations, they sponsored Rotary Career Day in November. On that day outstanding community people talked to students about their different professions. Mr. Fields was counselor for the ninth grade, Mrs. Hollowell for the tenth and eleventh grades, and Mrs. Preetorious for the twelfth grade. Mrs. Patton was the always efficient and smiling secretary. EXTREME UPPER: Always smiling, Mrs. Preetorious helped assure our seniors of graduation. ABOVE: Mrs. Patton proved again to be invaluable to Jenkins. ABOVE LEFT: Mrs. Hollowell v s always concerned about each and every student. LEFT: Mr. Fields continued to help the students in every way he could. 16 COUNSELORS
